Re: Great River vs Grassy Hills

I have been to both and actually had meetings at both for my own wedding.

I posted yesterday that the only reason I didn't go with Great River was because my date was already taken (Labor Day weekend, this year).  Other than that, I LOVED that place.  They were professional and thorough.  I truly wish we could have used them.

Grassy Hill's interior had been redone in the time that FI and I attended a wedding and then went to talk with them about our own wedding.  FI fell in love with the grounds.  The pictures would have been gorgeous.  But for whatever reason, we got that "factory-wedding" feel while we were there.  Perhaps it was the woman herself, but once you get rubbed that way, it's hard to get rid of it.

HOWEVER - Grassy Hill by far and away had the most inclusive, affordable package out of the 7+ places we visited and got numbers from.  You should still go and check it out.

We're getting married at Grassy Hill in less than 3 weeks! The packages are pretty reasonable and include a lot, and they have been very accomodating in terms of letting us personalize things. The old coordinators are no longer there but I LOVE the new General Manager Christine and she has been wonderful in taking over our contract. We also got to taste meals before booking and they were delish. So far, only good things to say!

We thought about looking at Great River but the prices on the website kept us from even inquiring.

thank you!! both of these were so helpful.
im going to both on wednesday so we'll see what they have!
does anyone know if either place has a minimum # required for summer weddings?

I think it depends on which "room" you use. There is a divider that can make the rooms smaller/allow multiple events at a time. I think we also got a deal because we booked 2 years in advance. For both big rooms we had a min. of 175 ppl.

Also, they base this not on # of ppl necessarily but also on minimum revenue generated based on the lowest package price. So even if you don't hit 175 people, maybe you would still hit the revenue amount because you are paying for a bigger package.

Great River was my top 3 and I was told by family/friends that golf there that the food is really good. I think it depends on how large your guest list is. We had minimun of 150 and when I looked at Great River's ballroom it really looks like it would be a little tight if you have more than 150-160. I'm from Orange and been to Grassy Hill probably 4 times for showers/sweet 16. I thought the foods and services were really good. Honestly I have not seen any complaints about either places on this board.
