Flowers!

Hi ladies!  I need some advice on getting started with flowers.  I don't know anything about them and am not too picky about the type--I just want things that are affordable and in season.  Does anyone have recommendations for an affordable florist in Minneapolis?  Also, how much should I expect to pay?  I am looking to have just bouquets, corsages, and boutonnieres (no centerpieces).  There are 4 bridesmaids, 4 groomsmen and 10 parents/grandparents.  Any help is much appreciated!

I'm using Anna from Bumblebee Florals. She's great! Very affordable, easy to work with, and does beautiful work. I'm really really excited about what she came up with for me! I would say for the amount of flowers you're looking for to expect to pay between $400-$500 depending on what type of flowers you're doing.

Also, not related, but I see that your city says Philly - are you planning a MN wedding from Philly? Because if you are, that's crazy, because I am too! :-D

I would HIGHLY reccommend Lisa with Forget me Not Floral Events!
We got married on Saturday and had the most georgous bouquets/bouts I'd ever think to have! We paid $495 for all of our bouquets (8 total) bouts (20 total) coursages (12 total) and more... Her info is in my planning bio and this week I'll be doing vendor reviews, but really I cannot say enough about her! My flowers are still in pristine condition (after a move even!) and H's bout is in the fridge looking brandnew!

Thanks!  I will definitely check both of them out.  Congrats on your wedding, aligross!  And cackle, yes I am planning a MN wedding from Philly.  What a bizarre coincidence!  Glad to know I'm not alone--I might pick your brain for things later on.

I would HIGHLY recommend Jeni from Simply Stated Elegance. She did a FABULOUS job and was so cheap. You pay wholesale (what she pays) for the flowers...no upcharging and then just labor for her to put them all together.

We just did Bouts, corsages, and bouquets as well.  I went with Deven Nelson (www.devennelson.com) and we spent about $450.  I also picked slightly expensive flowers for my bouquet so it was a little bit on the high end ($175)

<div>Heh, I was thinking the same thing! :) Are you or your FI from MN originally, or what was your reason for picking MN? I'm from Eden Prairie/Minnetonka originally, and I told FI that since we're living here that I really wanted the wedding back in MN :)</div><div>
</div><div>It's def a challenge, but I've had really good luck with almost everything. When is your wedding? Do you have a venue or other vendors picked out yet? Congrats on your engagement, btw. :)</div>

Although I didn't grow up there, a lot of my family is in Minnesota, and I lived there for several years.  We have people spread out all over and it seemed like the biggest "hub" of people and made the most sense.  And it's cheaper than Philly.  Plus I LOVE Minneapolis!  The wedding is set for July 21st at the Millennium Hotel in downtown Mpls for both the ceremony and the reception.  I don't have any other vendors booked, except we're pretty sure we want to use Muddy Paws cheesecake for the cake!  Right now I'm trying to figure out flowers and a photographer (which is completely overwhelming.  Lots of photographers seem to be booked already so if you have recommendations for a good one under $2500 I would love to hear them!).

<div>Amen to this!! Holy crap, I can't believe how exspensive wedding stuff is here! We're having a 2nd reception in Philly since a lot of his family isn't able to come to MN, and when I started looking into venues for it I had sticker shock, heh.</div><div>
</div><div>Ooooh, good choice of venue! Congrats! :) Yeah, it's crazy how fast photographers seem to book up. We got lucky enough to get Elise from Elisabeth Ann Photography. She was super nice during our meeting, and I really felt comfortable with her right away. She's def in your price range. Another photography company who's pictures I loved was Jeff Loves Jessica photography, a super cute husband and wife team. They're right at the top of your price range I believe.</div><div>
</div><div>Good luck with the rest of your planning! :)</div>

Thanks for posting about flowers, Pipes, I have many of the same questions as we begin researching florists.  And thanks to all of the other ladies for their great recommendations!  I've contacted a couple of them to set up consultations...  :)

Emily with Prairie Fair (http://prairiefair.com/) She's just starting out and is reasonable, communicates promptly and is phenomenally talented!!!  She just did my friend's wedding this weekend with two weeks notice.  I think it was about $350 for 4 bouquets, a whole bunch of bouts and 1 flower girl basket?

I'd say the above estimates are pretty accurate for what I saw for my wedding.  I did more spendy flowers for mine (peonies, ranunculus, etc.) and went with a slightly higher costing florist, Studio Emme... I paid about $650 for 5 bouquets, 10 bouts, 2 corsages, a big bundle of curly willow and moss for my DIY centerpieces.
