reception location

I’m recently engaged and just browsing online at locations of all sorts in all areas of NH, Northern Central MA, and on the coast between Boston, MA and Wells, ME. My FI and I aren’t looking to get married until like late spring/summer/early fall 2013, but I’m having a hard time finding reception sites that aren’t a hotel or restaurant for small number. I’ll settle if I have to, but I’d really prefer to not. And country clubs are definitely okay! We’re wanting to have just a family and close friends reception at around 40-70 guests (with a definite minimum at 39). Any ideas? Please and thank you =)

Is there a certain amount of money you want to spend (either per person or a total amount for the reception)? (Just a tip: about 40-50% of your total wedding budget is the average amount spent on a reception)

Ah! I knew I forgot something.

My budget is basically unlimited according to my dad. He'd prefer I'd keep it below $30k, which I'm assuming won't be hard with a small wedding, but if it for some reason were to go above that (I do tend to change my mind.. A LOT), he's willing to pay it. I'm not an extravagant person by any means, but I would like a location that doesn't look .. forced, if that makes sense.

My wedding is being held at Groveland Fairways, it may be a bit big for you but there is no minimum since there are 3 caterers to choose from.  It's sort of a country club, there is a putting area and some tees with a driving range but no actual greens to play 18 holes so it has the gorgeous greens and trees but no golfers hehe.

Crane Estate in Ipswich?  Usually its used for larger tented receptions but I'm not sure if you can have a seated dinner for fewer people indoors.  Its about 7k I think for a Saturday rental.

Habitat in Belmont - holds up to 100

Nashoba Winery (Not quite N Central, but central MA).

Governor John Langdon House - Portsmouth NH

    Mills Falls - Lake Winnepesaukee

Rockport Art Association - (1500 rental, max 125)

Crane Estate does do wedding indoors(I went to one this summer), they break the ppl up into two rooms though so I'm not sure how you would feel about that.

Pine Manor College in Brookline is really nice and would accomodate a small wedding.  I think the max is 80 seated with dancing:)

    Goodluck!!

I think this would be neat for your small wedding.

I wanted to do this for my wedding, but FIs grandmother is in a wheelchair and the top deck is not handicap accessible.  So we passed on it.  What sucks is that she's not going to our wedding anyway, so we could have done that! Argh!

I suggest the Lyman Estate in Waltham.  It can seat about 60 in the ballroom.
