Workout Accountability: Wednesday

Hello!

I lifted last night and did the elliptical as well.  The weather has been so nice that there has been practically no one in the gym. I love it.

Tonight I'll go for a 3-4 mile run.

How did everyone else do?

Re: Workout Accountability: Wednesday

  • Morning!

I skipped yesterday due to stomach issues.  This morning I tried to run for 30 minutes but had to walk for about 3 minutes of it toward the end because I was severly overheating.  I really need to call the apartment complex people today and ask them about adding some additional fans before someone passes out in there.

FI has promised to give me a butt-kicking weight workout tomorrow night to make up for the lost day yesterday.

  • Happy Wednesday!  I did weights and a short turn on the elliptical yesterday.  Today is cardio, but I'm not sure what I'll do yet.

    Good morning!

Last night I did Level 2 of 30DS. I don't think I ate enough calories yesterday or something because I was SPENT halfway through the workout.

Tonight I'll do W8D2 of C25K. I am really hoping to be able to push it through the entire week.

It's another gorgeous day here! Can't wait to get outside after work is over.

    Have a great day, everyone!

  • Morning!  Last night we lifted shoulders & biceps, and this morning we tried out a new spin class.  A local studio is doing free 5:30 am classes the entire month of April, but I felt like I got what I paid for unfortunately.  The bikes were terrible and they hesitated a lot when I stood up no matter how much tension I put on.  I ended up sitting down quite a bit and kind of doing my own thing.  Oh well, I burned more calories than if I just stayed in bed, so I'm trying to be positive!

Today was our BL weigh-in at work, and I finally broke the 180-lb mark!  I was 179.6 which means I've lost a total of about 30 pounds since I started this journey.  I've never been more motivated to keep working hard!

Hope everyone has a great day.
  • Last night I did abs and weights.  I never really do any leg exercises beyond squats every now and then and I'm thinking I need to start doing them to preven the thigh jiggles lol.  I did some more leg exercises yesterday than I normally do.

Today I'm hoping to go for a run after work, nothing too crazy.
  • I got to weights first last night and it was HARDER than doing it after cardio. I guess the cardio really helps loosen things up. I had to back off the weights a little bit, but I managed to get 35 minutes of weight lifting and crunches in, and then I did 35 minutes on the elliptical.

Felt like a pretty successful gym day. I'm hoping Thursday is equally as successful!

I lifted yesterday morning, went to a deep water fitness class last night after work, and a spin class this morning.  Whew- I'm beat!  It worked out well that the activities in each workout were very different so I'm not burning out any particular muscle group.  Lifting tomorrow morning again and running after work.  I think I may take Friday off, we'll see how I feel after tomorrow!

lbarr- I don't do a LOT of leg weights, but I've been trying to do better.  I do regular squats, wide leg squats, and lunges all with a 25 pound weight in each hand (so 50lbs) and I also do straight leg deadlifts, but I drop down to either 15 lbs per hand or 20lbs.
Edit- DERP I meant to tell you that I do 10 reps of each exercise, moving from one exercise to the next with no break, then I take a break in between sets, and I do 3 sets.  Start with 2 sets and see how you feel.

Congrats!!! Yesterday I did a 6 miles run with a huge huge huge hill right in the middle! It was a pretty decent run considering my hatred of hills! I think I am on the schedule for 3 miles today, but if I'm feeling good I might do 4!
  • Thanks medic!  I will definitely incorporate some of those into my workouts!
  • Some awesome variations on squats you can incorporate are sumo squats & split squats too - my legs scream at me after those are done.  Great for inner thighs!!

    kpdorr - thanks : )
  • lbarr: ditto Medi, those are some good leg exercises.  I also do box jumps, calf raises, and box step-ups (for step-ups you can hold small dumbbells I guess, but I do this sans weights for a warm-up).

entropic: On lifting days, I always do the lifting first, then cardio.  There are two schools of thought out there on this subject, but I'm in the camp of weights first, cardio second.  I do a short warm-up routine before I lift though, so my muscles aren't cold.

kpdorr: Nice work on the run! Way to conquer those hills!

  • Yesterday I did a quick lift, and this moring I had my spin class.

I love squats!! I miss them in my workouts, I want to start incorporating them, but my gym is falling apart (west philly), so there's only 1 or 2 working cages and it's one of those gyms where there's a definitive 'guys' section, which is lame. :(

lbarr-of course, ditto to medi's and jude's suggestions.  I also throw in weighted leg lifts every now and then (resting the weight on my inner or outer thigh, depending on direction.)

Also, was just browsing pinterest while waiting for my next meeting, and found this recipe that I thought was worth sharing.  It'll be nice being able to look forward to a not-too-damaging dessert this weekend!

  • Morning!

I've got a quick 15-minute cardio circuit doing the following:
    Shoulder Presses (10lbs; 15 reps)
    30 box jumps
    30 leg raises
    40 pushups
    150 reps with jump rope
jack knives with stability ball (15 reps)
    Tricep dips (20 reps)
    30 burpees
    40 situps
    50 air squats

I'll end with a quick 2 mile run. We've got a busy day ahead with a lot of our DIY projects, so I'm doing everything I can to get something in. I figure short bursts with high intensity cardio should do the trick right?

    Have a great day!

</div><div>Can you sort of explain briefly these schools of thinking? I don't really understand why it would be better one way versus another way.

  • I hit a wall after 20-25 minutes of weights/cardio last night. (No idea what happened.) I made up for it with a brisk walk this morning, and I'm going to do some weight sets later tonight.
  • DId about 20 min (a little more) on the treadmill today. I was going to do yoga, but the class was cancelled :-( I wanted to just go home and nap but I decided I'd hop on the treadmill instead. A 20 min walk is better than nothing!

Also did about 20-25 min yesterday. I'm going to make this a habit!

No real plan for tomorrow but maybe some more walking. I have a feeling this is going to get boring fast so I'm going to have to think of some other things to do!
