Lighting at Olowalu

Hi fellow Knotties!! I'm getting married at Olowalu this September. Does anyone know about the lighting situation? I'm going to have the standard lanterns and up lights, but wanted to know if flame less candles are needed for extra lighting. Any comments and recommendations are appreciated. Thanks!!

Re: Lighting at Olowalu

  • I hate the look of the LED candles (they don't really illuminate things either), but I know a lot of girls have used them. I think lighting is one of the most important aspects of creating mood - especially in a wide open spot like Olowalu.

We had a U shape of paper lanterns, stretching over the dance floor, along the ocean and the back up to the house, we also uplit the two trees beside the dancefloor with 6 coloured spotlights and, best of all, set two spotlights out on the ocean to illuminate the crashing waves.

There was plenty of light to see and eat by with that. You can see the uplighting, the ocean spots and the lanterns in this pic:

  • Thanks! Who did your lighting? Do you remember how much you spent?
  • I don't actually remember who did the lighting - my gut is Island Rents... but my caterer hooked me up with them. We spent about 1000$, but that was also back in '09, so prices have probably changed since then!
  • Alyson, I absolutely love the up lighting on the monkey pod tree! I saw that pic on the board previously and "pinned" it to my decor folder on my computer before Pinterest existed. Hehe. Anyway, I hope you don't mind, but I am going to utilize the same up lighting! I loooove the way it accents the tree and creates a nice glow...almost reminds me of Disneyland! ;)
