New to the Knot

I just got engaged and am new to the Knot boards. I am a teacher and really have to have the wedding in the summer. We would like to do a summer 2011 wedding but I am thinking finding a place is going to be very difficult so might look into July 2012. Does anyone have any tips to get started with planning? Any suggestions on a venue? We would like to spend 100-150 a person or less and would really like to be on the water but we can go anywhere on the coastline either in CT or RI.

We are at the MGM Grand at Foxwoods. Not on the water but they do have another venue that is on the water Lake of Isles? We are July 2011 and I know that they said they had most of July open. It was also in your price range.

Congrats and welcome! Ditto Lake of Isles, it's absolutely beautiful there and they were the other venue we seriously considered before choosing Waters Edge in Westbrook. Both places are on the water, within your budget, and have great packages with tons of stuff included in the per person price.

Welcome and congratulations!

We are getting married this June (2011) and using Coastal Gourmet/Mystic Seaport. When I got engaged in late 2009 they were already booking for 2011, so they may be booking for 2012 already and might be booked for 2011, but you can always check with Alyson Devaney - she has been very helpful. The pricing is VERY affordable, and the restaurant (Latitude 41*) has a lovely ballroom (The River Room) that faces the water. It's a really great place and the people are great to work with, and the food is good too

Welcome, congrats, and ditto everything Karebear said. We're having ours in the River Room (around 150 but it might be closer to 180). We also reserved the North Lawn. It's gorgeous!
