DJ vs. Ipod

What did you all do/will be doing?
Our problem is that we don't know how many people are coming to our wedding, and we wouldn't wan't to hire a DJ if only ~20 people show up. But I also don't want to download and make my play list - it makes me anxious.

TIA

Re: DJ vs. Ipod

  • Where are you having it at? I'm doing an in-suite reception and chose an ipod for fearing we might get thrown out if we had a DJ. Noise complaints are very likely to happen with a DJ :(

  • It's at Joe's, so no fear of noise complaints

  • If that's the case then I would go for a DJ!!!

  • I vote DJ mainly because they can be the ones to let people know when it's time for cake cutting, tosses, etc.
  • We are having our reception at Maggiano's and just using an iPod.  We are not having any dances or speeches, so we didn't need a DJ for these announcements.

If you do want to have the traditional dances and speeches, it may be helpful to have a DJ who can also be the MC for your event.

  • I am using an iPod too, since I am not doing speeches or dances either.. But if I was, a DJ would be helpful!

  • I am only having 20 people in the Abruzzi room in maggianos so im just doing an ipod. I feel we can make speeches and possible do a couple of 2 steps afterwards without a DJ. If I were having 50 ppl than maybe id consider it. Thats just my preference. If you want a DJ, I say...Go for it!!!

  • I'm doing an in suite and I'm using an iPod because I want to have complete control of the playlist. But, I am really nervous about it. I am having a hard time cutting the list down and deciding order. I know I'll figure it out in the end.

  • We're having our reception at Joe's, with 38 guests and we are having a DJ.  No speaches, but we are doing father/daughter, mother/son and our first dance.

I thought about doing an ipod too, but my mother convinced me to go with the DJ - that way we don't have to worry about the music and just have a good time.  DJ Godzilla is $300 for 4 hours, so I figured what the hell and went for it.

  • We booked DJ Godzilla for our in suite... we thought about using an ipod but I didn't want to have to worry about it, or having people go up and randomly change songs to what they want to hear, which a friend experienced at their wedding. Plus we did decide we want to do speeches and have someone to kinda keep the flow of things going.

We're having 30 guests at Maggiano's and hired DJ Godzilla.  His rates are fantastic and he's received great reviews from past Knotties.  We didn't want to spend a lot of money downloading songs (for 4 hours worth of music), figuring out the order, making sure everything was working properly on that day... it just seemed like a lot of stress to me (I'm a little OCD).

I'll let you know if it was worth it in about a month!

    Good luck!
  • We are going to have a small party (20 max) as well and we are going to do speeches, but we will use an ipod. One of FIs best friends will be our MC(he has done it before, is fantastic and LOVES it), so he will keep an eye on the timeline etc. For a small group like ours we felt it was strange to have a DJ.
