hotels for guests

We live in a small town, about 20 min from a big tourist area where there are a couple of the "nicer" hotels. In our town, we have a Hampton Inn, Holiday Inn Express, and a Super 8 Motel.

Should I reserve a block of rooms at the Hampton Inn ($101 a night)? Or should I reserve a block of rooms located in a nicer area near shopping and other attractions? (My choices here would be Wyndam ($120 a night), Country Inn & Suites ($110 a night), or Marriot Courtyard ($130 a night)?

Or do I reserve a block of rooms at one hotel, and then provide more information for the guests for other hotels in the area so they can make the choice better suited for them.... or just not bother reserving the hotel rooms and give them some information about hotels in the area.

Re: hotels for guests

  • I would probably do blocks at the Hampton and Holiday Inn close to the wedding site, but then list the other town options on your website.

  • I would do the closer one and then also let the guests know that there are other options.  Or you may be able to do blocks at both places.

  • Will you get a penalty if no one books a room in your block?  We booked at the Hampton Inn near our venue.  We had looked into booking rooms at the Holiday Inn as well but they have a policy that if no one books you have to pay for a room.

If you feel comfortable only booking one hotel, do one that is moderately priced and list the other options (higher priced and lower priced) for your guests on an insert in the invitation or on a website.

  • Nothing new to add but I agree with PP!  I did the same thing and gave a bunch of other options on my website.

I decided against the Holiday Inn because they don't have a pool - I know that my brother will love an indoor pool (and so will my kids! LOL) Gotta make a decision somehow.<div>
</div><div><div>I need to figure out how many guest rooms I need first, and then I will see how many hotel rooms I will reserve. Hampton Inn said they normally only do 10-block of rooms. We would probably need between 20-30 rooms for everyone. Of course the only annoying thing is the website says $101 a night ($116 after taxes), and the Assistant GM quoted me at $112 a room as their "discounted" rate before taxes. o.O </div></div>

  • When you talk to the manager, tell him you found it for cheaper on their website and ask him what he can do for you.  If he can't/won't do anything then block the rooms if there is no penalty for unused rooms and tell people to book online ASAP.  Once the hotel is full then have people book in the block.  I hope you understood what I said because it is a little convoluted.  :)

  • Insanity, I am using Hampton for my block of rooms.  The cheaper rate on the internet is the internet only rate and has to be paid in full at the time of booking and is non-refundable.  I argued with the woman at my hotel for days over it.  They won't go cheaper, as far as I was able to get :(  My guests are paying $5 more than what the internet only rate was when I set up my room block.

<div>That is what I found too. The $101 rate was internet only through third party internet sites, and the regular room rate was $124. Hampton did offer a non-refundable advance room rate of $105, but when I checked my tenative dates that rate wasn't available for those dates. </div><div>
    </div><div>How confusing! </div>
