Cake cutting..how/when are you doing this?

because we want to party as much as possible, we are considering cutting the cake right when the buffet opens just the 2 of us and the cameras/video. That way, when people are done eating the cake is ready to eat it and we can start dancing. opinions?
how and when are you cutting your cake?

i plan to wait to almost the end...we dont have much time for dancing and my open bar starts at the cocktail hour and ends about 1 hour before the wedding so i dont want to waste time eating desert instead of drinking and dancing (i know i know) so we are cutting the cake as soon as the open bar closes that way ppl get some sweets and coffee at the end atleast..lol... :)

I really don't want to interrupt dancing to do the cake cutting either. Then again, I didn't even want a cake to begin with.

The problem is that people WANT to see it, or so I'm told. Maybe do it after dinner, instead of while people are getting food. I'm thinking I'm going to put the cake cutting after dinner to get it out of the way.

We did it later like shortly after dinner, and people still continued dancing afterwards right away. it was great timely and worked out great. Everyone usually wants to see it happen. i remember going to my brothers wedding and never saw them cut the cake and I was like WTF, b.c normally you see people cut the cake. HTH

My DJ suggested cutting it right after dinner before the dancing starts.  He said if you interupt dancing to cut the cake many people will leave right after.  Because it will seem like the end of the night.

He said he's seen it happen many times when the brides don't listen to him.

So we decided to cut it right after dinner.

I plan on cutting it right after dinner...I hate having to stop dancing, watch the cake cutting, and then to go my table to receive a slice...I feel like I'm chasing it, lol.

Given that you spend so much money on wedding cakes, I'd like as many people to enjoy it as possible, so having it immediately after dinner would be most ideal.

I think its a good idea.  this is exactly what we did.  We really werent that much into the cake and only did the cutting and feeding eachother for the pictures and video.  No one really cared that they didnt get to see us cut it.  Plus we didnt cut into the party time which was most important to us!

My friend did the cake cutting first.  She & hubby had entrance, cut cake, did first dance, then we had dinner & danced the rest of the night.  its not how i'm planning on doing it, but it worked just fine, and it did maximize dancing time.
