Cake

Ok, so kind of last minute we are going to go with a cake (85days). I need to find a place to make one. and I was wondering what the going rate was. I need a cake for 200-220 people. should I just call around?? or should i go and try cupcakes or other stuff they offer before hand..

Re: Cake

  • You usually need to make an appointment for a tasting. I think when I looked on avg they start at $4 a slice an up depending on the cake, filling, frosting, design etc. I am doign mine through "Icing on the Cake" and they are amazing! They should be able to accomodate you even being less than 3 months out.
I'd call a few places an set up appointments since you can't really get a price without talking to them about what you want. Bring some print outs of ideas, and they should have books too for ideas.
  • Dessert Works in Westwood is a little less than that.  As is Brian's Fine Desserts in Braintree.
  • thank you, i have photos i will have to call places like you said!!

  • We're getting married in 82 days, and we just called Konditor Meister in Braintree yesterday. They made it sound like there was no rush. Told us to make an appointment for a tasting in September. It certainly sounded as though they could still accommodate us.

  • Mmm, I'd second Icing on the Cake - absolutely amazing! We contracted with them a long time ago for our September wedding, but you shoudl be fine as long as they don't have too many other weddings that day.
  • I highly recommend I Dream of Jeannie cakes. Jeannie is absolutely amazing!! I'm not a big cake fan and I couldn't get enough at my tasting, by far the best cake I've ever had! Jeannie has been so responsive and great to work with. You can't go wrong with her :)
  • Like PJSPJS, I am using Konditer Meister.  We went for our cake tasting a few weeks ago (with about 4.5 months to go) and they definitely didn't seem like we were coming in late or anything.

  • Dont' worry! We just did our cake tastings in July--only 2: Icing on the Cake and Sweet Tooth, and we finally decided yesterday which one to go with. We had trouble decided because they were both delicious! As long as they have your day free, you're fine. Call around for some appointments now, and you shouldn't have a problem.
  • We did 4 cake tastings.  Yum.  We went with Sandy Cove Weddings out of Scituate.  Delish.  We got cupcakes.
  • Konditor Miester is not the best tasting cake...their service is great, don't get me wrong. However, their cakes just tasted bland and like flour. We went with Cakes for Occasions. Their cakes are really yummy and the staff were amazing with what we wanted :)

  • We did 4 or 5 tastings.  We loved Icing on the Cake, but they were a little out of our budget.  We ended up going with Montillio's in Brockton.  The cake was delish and more bang for your buck than some of the others.

We were unimpressed with Konditor Meister as far as service and cake.

  • We went with our favorite bakery, Lyndell's in Somerville.  They're amazing, their turn around is really fast, everything is home made on site, and they have delivery.  I'd call and ask for an appointment with Karen.  She's the manager and she'll feed you and send you home with more samples than you can possibly imagine.

  • I have a November wedding date and we just did our tastings in mid-July (4 months out).    We did go with Konditor Meister, and were pleased with both flavor and quality.   We were told that 3-4 months out is very typical for folks to do tastings and book dates.  Just be prepared to put down a deposit to hold your date if you fall in love with somewhere and  want to lock it in!
