Weight Watchers, worth the investment?

Hey guys. My upcoming wedding is upping my motivation to lose the weight I want to before the big day. I'm a student and work 2 jobs, so I don't have much time for working out (I do zumba ~2-3x/week), so I figure that eating well is my best option.

However, I am a picky, picky eater! Living in the dorms caused me to develop some really bad habits and I am really sensitive about texture of food. It doesn't help that my FI, who I now live with, has a fantastic metabolism and always keeps snacky food in the house.

I'm 5'2, 135 pounds. Looking to be 115-120, kinda depending on how my body does. All my weight seems to be in my midsection and I want to look great in my dress, and my engagement photos in August!

Is WW a good plan for a picky eater that is looking 15-20 pounds of weight loss? Waste of money?

I've tried MFP and sparkpeople and for one reason or another just hasn't worked for me.

Re: Weight Watchers, worth the investment?

  • Weight watchers was definitely worth it. I did the online three month plan and lost about 25 lbs. And I was a heavy tracker either. The mobile app makes it really easy to follow too. Right now they have a 1 sign up fee so its like 58 for three month plan. I'm going to join again too. Email me if u wanna motivate and be ww buddies. haleymassaroweddingyahoo.com Christina

  • Im currently on WW and have lost 12 lbs in 2 months. I think its worth the investment, if you have the self control. Because that is basicaly what it boils down to, self control. Good luck!!
  • I lost 65 lbs on WW around 6 years ago.  The loss was great...it was slow but....I've kept it off!!!!!!  I never hit my "goal" and am starting it back to lose those last 15 that I never did before.  I HIGHLY recommend it for a lifestyle...not a diet.  It's not a quick fix but it works!!!  GOOD LUCK!!!!
  • I did WW back in HS and lost 20 lbs in 2 months on it before I fell off the bandwagon and gained it back (all my fault, not the program at all). I highly recommend it. I am NOT currently following WW but I do use the frozen WW meals relatively frequently when I am in a hurry and don't actually have time to cook OR when I'm trying to diet and I want an appropriate, healthful portion of something not so healthy like pizza, lasagna, fettucine alfredo, etc. It's a great way to satisfy your cravings without de-railing your diet. I LOVE that you can still have your favorites with WW.
  • I weighed 156 pounds when I started weight watchers my sophmore year of college in 2008, in 6 months I'd lost over 20 pounds and within the year I was at the weight I was when I first started HS which was 115pounds. I've kept it off since without being on WW because of what I learned in that year. I say it is DEFINITELY worth the investment!!!!

Three years ago I lost 20lbs in 3 months, however, I gained it all back because of my eating and not following what I learned on WW. Now I'm back on track and down 8lbs. Hoping and praying for 30lbs total.

  • I kind of follow it without following it, in a way - fruits and veggies are 0 points, so I remind myself of that when I want to snack.  Fruit/veggies are infinitely better for me than a pre-packaged snack!

  • I'm doing the online program and having the app is amazing!  I'm 2 weeks in and lost 3 lbs and 2 inches in my waist! During those 2 weeks was memorial day weekend 2 weddings where I didn't follow the diet too much, and i still lost!  I'm soo excited and look forward to having success stories like PPs - I know I can do it on this plan!!!

  • I'm a WW meeting member, so it's a bit more costly than the online-only program but it's completely worth it to me. Being accountable and weighing in each week have helped me shed nearly 5lbs in just a few weeks and I am continuing to lose. This is my second time on the program and I'm loving it even more now!

  • I should add that I am also looking to lose about 20lbs, so a decent amount but not a whole lot in the end.

  • I started WW February 2011 and hit 40 lbs lost in August!  I plateaued for a while and then lost another 8lbs but then I allowed myself to gain the 8lbs back.  I'm currently trying to get down below 160lbs for my wedding (I'm 5'6'' and this is about where I was in high school...I may have even been closer to 170lbs at HS graduation!)  Its totally doable, but once your weight gets down, it slows down a lot!

With WW you can pretty much eat what you want (though you will find that some things just aren't worth it).  You just have to be accountable for what you eat.  Also, FWIW, meetings were a HUGE help to me because I really enjoyed reporting my success to my meeting group (I never thought I'd get into that!!)
  • Weight Watchers is 100% worth it. I too developed terrible eating habits in college. None of my clothes fit by the time I graduated. I was 5'5" 143lbs. After about 3 1/2 months of weight watchers, I was down to 124. I didnt lose it super fast, but almost two years later, I weigh 127.  I have stayed between 124-128, for the past two years, which I am totally happy with. I would suggest going to the weekly weigh ins and meetings each week if possible. It keeps you accountable and wanting to do better each week. Good luck! Hope you give weight watchers a chance. I know you'll be happy you did!
  • I did WW with my FI's mom and sister and lost quite a bit of weight. We all loved it! The meetings were fun and getting weighed every week helped us a lot! I would def reccomend it to anyone who's interested in it. If I weren't a broke college student, I would be right back on it for my wedding. GL!

  • I have just started WW again.  I lost 20 lbs a year ago, but then fell off the wagon and stopped counting.  Now that I have a date set, I am a little more motivated to stay on track.  It does deffinatly work!
