HM in Italy

Hi Knotties!

Looking for some advice on a HM in Italy.  We're going the first week of March, 2013.  We'd love to see both Rome & Venice and we have a total of 8 days, including travel time.  Does anyone have any recommendations of tour companies and/or hotels or those to avoid?  We're not interesting in spending too much time on guided tours.  We also don't need all the "extras" the HM packages provide (i.e. champagne, choc covered strawberries, private dinners).

Thank you!!

Re: HM in Italy

  • If you're open to checking out more places in Italy, Google Cinque Terre.  It is my favorite place in the world, and would be the perfect setting for a honeymoon, it is so beautiful and romantic.  They were devastated by mud slides last year but have been cleaning up since, so keep that in mind (I'm sure you'll read about it if you Google it).

Grab Rick Steve's Italy book (cheap from Amazon), he has AMAZING advice and walking tours, plus free podcast tours for every single place you will go.  It's fun to read before the trip, it will get you so excited.

Rome is a must because of the history but didn't seem like a romantic, relaxing honeymoon spot (if that's what's you're looking for), Venice is beautiful and easily covered in 1 night/2 days (we did it in 1 day).  But honestly Cinque Terre, I have no words, it's incredible.
