Need Some Advice.

I wasn't sure where to post this but I figured I would post it here since this board seems to have a lot of activity.

My FL and I are getting married on October 13th.  One of his groomsmen is currently in Afghanistan and won't be returning to the US until a week before the wedding.  (This is what we were told this week it could change to earlier or he might not be able to make it at all)  What should we do about the tux rental?  Does anyone know if Men's Warehouse does anything to accommodate someone who is currently serving the country?

  • Can you have him give you your measurements and then call a tux store to try and have one ready in that size to try on when he gets home?

[QUOTE]Two suggestions: 1) Call MW and ask. 2) <strong>See if he would like to wear his dress uniform.

This is a really good idea.

  • I tried calling Men's Warehouse and the person I spoke with told me they never had a request like this and didn't have an answer.  I was surprised and tried to not get upset or frustrated.

I had suggested the uniform but the groomsmen said he didn't want to stand out and just wanted to be a normal person for one day.

  • I would just look for some other tux places in your area and call with the same question.  If a sales person doesn't have an answer, ask to speak with a supervisor.

  • I would maybe email MW corporate and explain the situation and see if they can do anything.  Based on experience, lots of places are willing to bend over backwards for servicemembers.

I agree with getting his measurements and just having it ready for pickup, though.  That shouldn't be too complicated.

  • MW just needs his measurements to order his tux. He'll pick it up 2 or 3 days (they'll tell you, I can't remember for sure) before the wedding so they have time for exchanges if something doesn't fit correctly.

  • Thanks ladies!

I guess our concern is that this is a tentative date of return.  It quite possible that he won't be able to make it.  We don't want him to have to put down a deposit and then lose it because he can't make it home.

  • How many people are you having? MW I'm assuming does a free tux rental with at least 4-5 other ones or something like that.  Why don't you just give him the free rental and then it's not an issue if he can't get it.

And ditto blue. Dress uniforms are hot.

Like I said, lots of places are willing to make concessions for service members.  It sucks, but he may just have to suck it up and accept that he might lose the deposit.

Is it in your budget to make the deposit for him so he won't have to worry about it?

  • If he doesn't want to wear the dress uniform I would pay the deposit for him. Dumb question, but does he have exact measurements for his uniform? You might have more luck at a local tux place, with just giving his measurements.
  • I would call their main office if the branch you went to did not know.

I would assume you would know a week or so in advance if he was unable to attend and that way, you could cancel.

We had this situation come up (due to a health issue, not someone being in the service).  From our experience, MW will measure you a week before the wedding and charge you a $20 rush fee on the tux rental.  You can also get his measurements (MW has a little card you can fill out with directions on how to measure each item) and call them in to your MW store.

A word of caution on that, though:  H was measured at TWO different tux stores across the state and both gave him drastically different measurements than MW.  MW was accurate -- the other two were way off.  I'd highly recommend getting rush measurements done when he gets home anyway just to double check everything.

ETA:  Yes, MW does a free tux for the groom if you have over 3-4 other rentals for your WP.  Go to their website for tux rentals and there should be a place there with a free coupon code.

  • Thanks for everything ladies!!  I have a call into my local MW for the manager to call me back because the sale associate was no help.
