Sitting Shiva :(

Fi's uncle died early this morning  :(

Funeral and Shiva begin on Tuesday. Should we send a basket of food now or wait til Tuesday to bring something homemade?

They are Reform and kosher does not matter.

I would wait until they are actually sitting shiva.  However, if they are planning on sitting for the full 7 days (many reform only sit for 3 days now), I might wait until later in the week.  You tend to get a lot early in the week and it can sometimes dwindle toward the end of the week.

Thanks for the info. The family is planning to sit for the full 7 days. I'll wait a few days to send something.

Have you considered getting together with other cousins and/or family to send in a meal for one of those days?

With someone fairly distant, I'll bring a basket of some sort of food. But it seems in my experience that those who are closer take care of the meals. When my aunt died a couple of years ago, I contacted my cousins who weren't her children and the group of us went in together to have a meal delivered for the second night.
