Opinions please - a few STD issues

First of all, is a 5x7 photo postcard too big for a STD?

This image is the exact size that the card would be printed - http://www.flickr.com/photos/48206722@N03/4424715310/sizes/o/
We could have it printed on heavy card stock, or on glossy photo paper.

I don't know if something that big is obnoxious?  We've only received 2 STDs from other couples.  One was a small magnet, and the other was a small photo card.  I don't want to look like an ass or be flashy with a too-big STD.

Second, should I leave it all lower case, or would it look better with capital letters?

Third, does it need to say "invitation to follow"? Can't that be assumed?   I'm between saying:

save the date
for our wedding

july 19, 2011
negril, jamaica

OR

save the date

july 19, 2011
negri, jamaica

invitation to follow

Re: Opinions please - a few STD issues

  • I would add invitation to follow.  Most people would know this is a save the date, different from an invitation, but not everyone has received them.  You may bypass some confusion by just adding it.  I don't think 5X7 is too big or flashy - it looks fine with lower case.  Whatever you think looks best.  Don't overthink it.
  • I can't see your picture because my work computer blocks flickr, but usually the wording is:

    Save the Date

    Blue
    and
    Curaco

  • Lower case is fine.

You do need to say invitation to follow.

16 months is way too early - you shouldn't send these more than a year in advance, so please keep that in mind.

I don't think there's a rule that 5x7 is too big, but I think 4x6 would be more than sufficient.  I, personally, would stick with that size.

I'm not sending them yet (even though 99% of our guests are aware and basically confirmed anyway).  We're getting them printed because there's a sale now and it's much cheaper than full price.

Thanks for the input, I'll leave the text as it is and maybe look for a smaller card size.
