Cake or Cupcakes?

Hi all,

We are about 90 days until my wedding and have yet to pick out invites (need very affordable as we are expecting 250 guests) and cake...but not sure if we should go with cupcakes set out at each table or go with the traditional cake (I do not really like cake) thoughts?

Craigs cakes makes yummy whipped frosting cakes with mousse that are not overly sweet, Carl's has good reviews but I hate buttercream frosting and don't see whipped frosting on their menu.
 Thanks!

I was very pleased with Carl's Cakes, but I think he does mostly buttercream.

Cupcakes are typically less expensive than a tiered cake, but will probably run you a similar amount as sheet cakes...  The only way to really know is to call each bakery and price it out.

You don't have to do cake.  You should have something sweet and desserty for people.  So cookies, pie, or cheesecake would all be options.

You could also do a candy buffet.

If you're considering cupcakes and in the Milwaukee Area, Miss Julia's Bake Shop (in Brookfield) does amazing cupcakes. Seriously, so delicious. We're going to have a cake for our wedding, but I'm hoping to do cupcakes from her for the rehearsal dinner, or for the bridal shower.

I've seen some really great sweets/candy/dessert tables :-)

Def. don't do cake if you don't like it!  Do something you enjoy

I think it depends what style your wedding is. Is it more formal or laid back? More modern or traditional? I personally like cakes better, but think the cupcake idea is cute.

    Thanks so much!

We are having a fairly traditional country club wedding reception in Madison. Love the idea of a dessert buffet too, but not sure on the pricing if that will be more expensive?

Someone suggested we could do a small cake for my fusband and I to cut and then do cupcakes for everyone...but not sure that is fair to our guests for only us to have a cake.

We are having cup cakes in lieu of a formal wedding cake. However, the cost will run similar to that of having a formal cake. We were advised by our baker Cakes While You Wait in Pewaukee that their rule of thumb is to plan 1.5 cup cakes per guest.

    Good Luck!
