Pulling my hair out over this ring!!!

FMIL gave Fh and I her wedding set as an heirloom ring for our engagement, and since it had to be resized, we brought it to JCPenny's last Saturday (12/3/11). Fh gave them HIS phone number and they told us they would call when they could give us an estimate on the price to size the ring, but every time I ask him he says he hasn't heard from them. I'm so nervous! i want to know that the rings are okay (seeing as they're almost 25 years old and irreplacable) but FH refuses to let me call and ask how it's coming along. Has anyone used JCP to size rings before? How long do they wait to get back in touch with you?
I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where. I love you straightforwardly, without complexities or pride; so I love you because I know no other way than this..

  • Trust your FI.  These are his mom's rings so he has a vested interest here to make sure everything goes well.  He's on it - trust him and let it go.
  • I haven't used them to size a ring, but they repaired a necklace for me once and it took 3 weeks :( I hope you (your FI!) hears something soon!!

It can take a few weeks to get rings sized. Don't worry about it - I'm sure your FI has it under control.

    Life is good today.
  • It can take up several weeks to get a ring sized. I took my ring in to see if maybe it needed to be a 1/4 bigger since my hands swell at times. They used a third party to do sizing so it can take 2-3 weeks. ITA w the others, sure everything will be fine :)
  • Yeah, I wouldn't worry about it.  I assume a place like JCPenney's probably sends the ring out to a professional jeweler to do it (probably don't have the equipment to resize on site).  Mine took like a month.

  • I would be freaking out if it took that long but I would also trust that FI knows what he is doing
  • Has he already proposed? Maybe he is just waiting to give them back :)
  • No offense, but why on earth would you take your ring to JC Penny to have it resized?  I'm not trying to be a jerk, but if you have an heirloom piece of jewelry that needs repair work, you should really bring it to a reputable jewelry store with a jeweler on premesis.  I used to work in the jewelry industry.  JC Penny is good for clothes and luggage and stuff.  Not jewelry.

Look I'm sure it will be perfectly fine and hopefully other knotties have it right and your FI has it under control.  But in the future, I highly recommend utilizing a jeweler.
  • In the big stores like that they usually send it out to get it resized, so it will take several weeks.

Independent stores usually do it on-site, which means it takes a day or a few days.
