My FMIL is throwing a shower in my FI's hometown where I don't know any of the women invited aside from her, my FSIL, and my mom. Apparently a lot of the women invited are asking her what personal gifts to get me (they don't want to get registry gifts for the shower just for the wedding, which I find strange since the shower is for the wedding but okay). Basically, they want to shop for the shower like it's my birthday so they want to get things like clothes, dvds, giftcards, body lotion/perfume, etc. I really have no idea how to answer this (just like I don't usually answer this question on my birthday and people usually just give gift cards lol). I guess it's weird to me because I don't know any of these women so I'm not so sure how they can pick out a personal gift? No real question here I suppose, but did any of you experience this or do you think it's slightly strange?
Re: Shower like a Birthday?
Just call me "Brothel"
And betrothed, I'm disgusted with most of the comments that you have posted. I don't think I've ever read such judgmental comments in my life. I'm so lucky that the girls I speak to on theknot are nothing like you...I would've never come on here for ADVICE if I would've encountered a big a bitch as you. I genuinely feel awful for your children or your future children, and I think it would be irresponsible of YOU not to invest in their future therapy sessions starting now. Because trust me when I tell you honey, they're gonna need it. ~jcaruncho2010

Anyway, glad I'm not the only one who thinks this is weird. lol
Completely weird. It's not your birthday. it's a shower. For you and your future husband.
Just mentioned where you're registered and thank them for their generosity.
