Not all places are bad.  Its easier for people to write bad reviews than have the urge to come online and sing praises.   However, lately there has been lots of good, positive feedback.  The people who come on this board and their first post is a bad review, I try to delete it right away because we, as the community, question the credibility of these kind of posts.

What are you looking for that has a lot of negative reviews?  Maybe we can help...

I've had two proms and been to two weddings at Odyssey. No complaints any time. ANY where you go, someone will have a complaint about one thing or another. Just go with the majority and I'm sure you'll be fine.

I have also heard a lot of good things about the Odyssey Country club. A friend of mine had her wedding there a few years back, and said it was great.

Ashton Place will most likely fit your budget unless you have more then 100 people then you will go over.

Chateu Ritz in Niles may fit your budget and they just re did they hall..its pretty (look at in online) I did not go with it because I wanted chair covers and sashes and that would have hiked up my bill and Ashton includes those in their package

There is another place that is cheaper too with good reviews however I did not take it because it was a little old fashioned looking for my tastes..I am trying to google that for you.  Found it Casa Royale in des plaines

Those are the ones I found with really good reviews and packages to fit my budget (which is around yours_)

Some restaurants have banquet halls too...you could check into that

I'm not sure what your guestlist size is but that could help you with your budget.

Also, I ditto the bad reviews happening for every vendor.  Read the actual reviews.  Sometimes reviewers sign a contract, then get upset because they didn't read the contract correctly.  Then they give the vendor a bad review.  Also, some people are prefectionists that can not accept the idea the a Wedding can not be perfect because it is planned by humans and there are things like weather that can not be controled.

Your best luck is finding a package deal.  Check out Pierre's, Skylight Banquet, Belvedere, or HIckory Hills Country Club for really great package deals.  We were at William Tell, which is more than the other two I listed, but they are still very budget friendly with different options.  Go and talk to actual places and see what they can offer you.
