Destination Wedding

Hello ladies!!

I'm from Iowa planning a wedding next Feb in Orlando-my fiance is British-so since his fam and friends need to travel, might as well do it down there!!

Does anyone have any great ideas for a resort for wedding and lodging?!?!  We're going to bar hop for our reception and have a cocktail hour...ideas would be awesome!!

Thanks ladies!!
:-)

Can you give us some more specifics about the style you're looking for, size of guest list/wedding party, etc.? Do you want to have the wedding at the same location where everyone's staying? There are TONS of options for that, a lot of which depend on your budget, I think. Grand Bohemian comes to mind - it's downtown, and I think it's not too far from Church Street and other popular night-life spots. HTH

    Hi!  Thanks for your response!!

we're thinking pretty small-no more than 30 people.  I would love for everyone to stay at the same place as the ceremony.  no huge reception is needed-so we wont need a 4 hour rented ballroom.  theme wise, very relaxed, men will be wearing grey suits and me in a dress-i would love an evening wedding.  i just want it to be as relaxed as possible!!

bar hopping, what are your suggestions?  i was thinking the bars over by islands of adventure...but if you have something better that would be great-

ps, we're looking to be married on a thursday, if that makes any difference...thanks for your help!  i hope i didnt go too much into details!!

wedding size is one MOH and one Best Man.

    Thank you!!Smile

Now that I think about it, I'm probably not the best person to field this question, since I haven't ever been to a bar in Orlando... lol ;)

I would think that you could find something to accommodate you around downtown Orlando or out toward the attractions, I just don't know that scene very well. I do think a Thursday will make it easier for you to find what you want, though. (And the detail always good!)

Hoping someone else will step in and help you come up with ideas!! GL!

I really don't know the bar scene at all, but you could get married and then have a dinner for your guests (somewhat similar to the set up of a traditional rehearsl dinner at a restaurant somewhere) and then go bar hopping for the reception.  There are many places in downtown Orlando or down at Islands of Adventure or down at the Disney version of that (I can't remember what its called).  I think that would be so much fun!  I can't give you any specific places or suggestions, but I'll talk to my mom and some friends from high school and see what we can come up with!

There is this really cute place called The Veranda which is vintage like bed and breakfast. They also do weddings and other events there. It is located in Thornton Park in the Downtown Orlando area. You could have your ceremony & reception there and it is also a short cab ride away from all the bars in the heart of Downtown.

If you want to stay in Downtown, I suggest the Grand Bohemian. They are plenty of bars within walking distance.

You could also do City Walk, near IOA. There are a slew of bars, clubs and restuarants over there and you could stay at Hard Rock which I belive is the closest hotel.

    Good Luck & Happy Planning!

Thank you so much for all of your suggestions!!  I'll check out that B & B and see how it looks!

We're doing a reception back in Iowa and over in England, so we don't feel the need to have a full reception there.  Grand Bohiemian has come up a few times, so we'll check that out...City Walk is exactly where we were thinking for our bar hopping, we spent New Years last year down there and had so much fun!!

So The Veranda and Grand Bohiemian I will have a look at!  Thank you so much!!!  I really appriciate all of your suggestions!!
