seating chart drama

any suggestions on how to do the darn seating chart?  how are you determining who is going to sit with who?  I have issues with family drama (my dad's sister and my dad's brother don't really get along), my aunt (on my mom side) thinks the world revolves only around her and her family (which my brother and I have been forced to smile and grin at for every family event since we have been born) so I don't want him to sit with them.... Most of the people on "my side" are actually my parents friends (and family) whereas the people on my FI side are really friends and co-workers (but he has hardly any family coming).  The bridal party is a mix of family and friends...  I would just say "ya'll figure it out and sit where you want" but we are having a plated dinner so we have to assign seats....

Sorry it is so long, I just didn't realize how HARD this was going to be....

Re: seating chart drama

  • I cant wait to get suggestions! I too will have family drama. FMIL says about 4 people cannot sit near each other because they don't get along.

My thought (and I know this is wishful thinking) is to tell them all to suck it up and deal with it! They day isnt about them and they can sit where I put them and be happy about it! Wink

  • I have mine almost done.  I have a template of a seating chart if you would like. Its broken down by last names.

I would just sit the two fueding parties at opposite ends of the room.  I grouped them by family.  So his parents sat with gma and gpa.  his aunt and her children sat together. Brother and his children sat together.  I grouped friends by commonalies (he we went to grad school togeter) or this table  is I was there boss.  The random people got put in last and kinda got stuck anywhere.

I just started with paper and pen
    Table 1-list names

    table 2-ect

This helped me move people around before I put them in my document.  I used my guest list and went down the list.

    HTH!
  • I am using bed bath and beyond's toolkit. I would agree with jen. Put people on opposite sides of the room. See if some people even from opposite side s have something in common. Like for mine, there are family friends on my and his side that work together.
  • Oh good, I'm not the only one with family drama. My siblings don't get along so I am having each sibling (I have three) at different tables. I have my tables pretty much figured out but I need to get all my RSVPs back to make it final.

  • I plan on using Jen's template and seating people with others they have things in common with. This sounds easy now I just hope it will be when I get ready to do the chart! :)
  • thanks all!  I worked on it last night and feel pretty good.  I am going to ask my MOH which of 3 tables she would like to sit at and I also need to confirm with my brother.   Now I am just waiting for the rest of the RSVP's... come on people- mail them back!!!
