Ceremony Music

Outdoor wedding, no electricity at the ceremony, and not close enough to any colleges to get students to play. It's the beginning of August anyway so it's not like any would be in town. Has anyone had this problem? Solutions?

Re: Ceremony Music

  • Hi!
I am having an outdoor ceremony and we aren't allowed to have any amplified music of any kind (no electricity for a stereo/iPod/etc).  Also in August and not near colleges... I really had wanted a harpist as well.
I went on to the local craig's list board and posted under musicians looking for a harpist.  It took like a month of silence but someone did respond and because we only wanted him for a little while on a Friday evening, he knocked down his price to almost half.
    It's worth a shot!
    Good luck!
  • The solution we found to not having electric at our outdoor wedding is the Ion tailgater portable speaker system. We randomly found one at Kohls (no idea they exhisted before that). It has a recharable battery and a microphone included with it. From reviews it says it can get LOUD if necessary. You can also plug another mic into it if needed or link it to another speaker. You can find them online and at stores (just search around). This will allow you to mic the ceremony. You can also dock an Ipod in it if you wanted and just make a playlist to play during the ceremony. Look on craigslist for musicians. There are some on there. It is where we found the string quartet for our ceremony and they are not college students (we live by a college but the quartet I found on craigslist (music teachers) is actually cheaper then a trio of college students I could get). Hopefully that helped! Good luck.

  • Try looking for boat speaker two.  I'm in the same situation.  I got my dad a nice set for christmas a few years back and we'll be using them at the ceremony.

  • Usually, The pro Wedding Musicians will choose these selections, as they always know what is appropriate. FYI - We perform light classical selections along with Josh Groban tunes, Andrea Bocelli, selections from Phantom, Les Mis, during the Pre-Ceremony music.  Also check it whether they have done the music before in any wedding.
