New to the board

Hello Everyone,
My name's Jackie and I'm new to the board. My fiance proposed to me December 19th of last year and it was wonderful and very well thought out. We have been together for over 3 years and (of course) are very happy.
We live in Pennsylvania and had decided to get married around the area that we live in now, however that's now changed, which is why I'm here. Im a beach-baby at heart and so is my fiance. And as alot of people do, we always thought of holding our wedding at a nearby beach, but decided against it...until now. I'm so excited to say that we are going full steam ahead with the beach wedding idea and I know your state has some beautiful beaches. I lived in Ocean City for a few summers but don't know much about your state's beaches.
We are looking at Bethany or Dewey because my parents have vacationed there recently and really loved it. I'm here to get advice from the locals (you ladies) about the best venues for the ceremony and reception. We will most likey have about 150 people and would like something in between a casual and a formal wedding, if that makes sense. I don't know if I'd like to get married right on the beach, but would kind of prefer a ceremony site that overlooked the water so there could be chairs, instead of everyone standing etc.
Oh, also, I'm willing to travel into Maryland if you have any ideas there, but want to keep it no further than that.
Any advice or ideas would be extremely helpful.

Thanks ladies!
Jackie

I know Bethany has a couple of nice houses they rent out. I think ones called the purple house Im sure if you googled it you could find it.  Between Dewey and Bethany is the Delaware Seashore park.  I know the Indian River life saving center does receptions.  Im getting married ont he beach at the Delaware seashore but I'm not having my reception there.

Thanks for the help! I checked out the Indian River life saving center and emailed them!

First off, welcome and congrats!  The girls on this board will help you with whatever you need; feel free to ask for whatever you need!

The only venue I know of down at the beach (besides the one PP mentioned) is Baywood, which is gorgeous.  But, it doesn't involve the beach or water.  Hopefully you are able to find something!

Hi! I live near Ocean City, so I'm pretty familiar with various reception halls (even though I'm not getting married here.) Some options include:

    - Coconut Mallorie (OCMD)
    - Princess Bayside/Princess Royale (OCMD)
    - Salero (Rehoboth)
    - Baycenter (Dewey)
    - Rehoboth Beach Country Club (Rehoboth)
    - northbeach (Dewey)

I also have a good recommendation for a photographer, if you're interested. She has lived in Lower Delaware her entire life, so she could also be helpful in other ways. She just shot our engagement pictures at the Salisbury, Md., library - you can see them at photosbyholly.smugmug.com.

There was a girl on here about 2 years ago who got married on the beach in Dewey (they only allow 75 chairs to be set up on beach, but she brought blankets for the rest to sit on) and then had her reception at Salero.  Her pics were beautiful.

As Brit mentioned, there is also Baywood Greens, which is a Golf Course off of Rt. 24 going towards Long Neck.  It is beautiful.

This has been really helpful. I've emailed and called every place that each of you recommended. These places are beautiful! Makes me so excited!!!

    Kelsey,
I'd love any recommendations, photographers, etc that you have. I'm going to check out your pics now.

Alright, I searched the board for some other suggestions, and found some posts that have some venues you might want to look into:

    Nassua Valley Vineyards-Lewes, DE
    Mangos-Bethany Beach, DE
    Fountains-Salisbury, MD
    Golden Sands-Ocean City, MD
    Sunset Room-Ocean City, MD
    Bear Trap Bistro-Ocean View, DE
Lighthouse Sound-Bishopville, I think, near Ocean City, MD
    Baywood-Millsboro, DE
    Salero-Rehoboth Beach, DE
Chesapeak Bay Beach Club-near the Bay Bridge not sure of the city
    Sussex Pines Country Club-Georgetown, DE
Bayside Resort & Golf Club-Selbyvill (W. Fenwick), DE
Ocean Pines Yacht Club in Ocean Pines, Md.
Virden Center (UD's center down in Sussex Co.)- Lewes, DE

Hopefully that gives you a ton of places to check out, in addition to the Indian River location.  Let us know what you find out about any you look into, and what you eventually go with!

    Hey, Jackie,

I'd recommend Holly if you're looking for good photography on a budget. If you have a little bit more to spend, I'd also recommend Rob Korb or Joseph Gidjunis (pricier than Rob). They're both amazing photographers, but are out of my budget.

If you have any questions on venues, just let me know. I can't personally recommend other vendors since I haven't looked into them, but I have a lot of friends in the wedding industry that I can ask.

Thanks ladies! All the ideas are very helpful and thanks for the warm welcome! I'm thinking of enlisting the help of a wedding planner in the DE beach area if I can swing it with the budget. Sometimes i think I don't need one though, with all the help I've gotten from these boards.

I'm new to this board as well.  I'm originally from PA but have been in DE for 16 years now.  I'm actually going to see the Virden Center this Saturday and hopefully book it for my wedding next October.  So far it's at the top of my list and I'll be disappointed if it doesn't live up to my expectations!!  We plan on getting married right on the property as well.
