size of thankyou cards

I found these adorable cards at the store the other day they are white with silver scoll/floral embossing. The only problem is that they are ment to be place cards. They are 4" x 4" opened up  but 2" X 4" when folded. I was planning on writing on the full opened up space. is this tacky/ too small?

Re: size of thankyou cards

  • Are they preforated or prescored in order to make folding easier?  If it's clear they are meant to be folded and that you're writing over that line, it may look odd.

I think that the overall size is okay, maybe a little small.  But I'd make sure they look like flat cards, and that because of the shape and size you won't wind up paying extra for postage when you mail them.

  • Well, I have pretty large handwriting so I think that would be a little too small for me. Do they come with envelopes? You'll have to make sure you can send them in the mail.
  • They sound a bit small but nothing I think I would think twice about if I received one. Ditto pokepoke on the envelopes. It also might look strange if you had to buy bigger envelopes for them, and I can't imagine where you'd find envelopes that small.

  • not perferated and the art store near my house has envolopes that will fit them with minimal room to spare, also i have small handwriting especially when i print. thank you very much for helping me :)
  • i acutaly found a site that i can get envolopes in my wedding colors for 20 cents a piece :) so yes ill mail them also found out 5 x5 is the smallest mailable size but thats only a 1/2" on each side so i dont think that'll be to big
  • Doesn't USPS have a minimum size of envelopes that it'll mail with the normal stamp?  I think it's 3.5x5".  I would have your thank you cards be that size so you don't have a problem with postage or TY notes getting lost in the mail.
  • Even if you write small, not everyone will be able to read that small of writing.  I'd go with the standard size cards.

This. I don't think your 2"x4" cards will make it to their destinations, and then you will have spent all that time writing TYs for nothing.

A friend of mine DIYed her wedding invitations. She learned after the fact that the RSVP postcards were a bit too small; quite a few of them were eaten by the postal machines and many never made it.

  • Is there not a matching invitation or thank you note available?

I'd look for a normal thank you card instead of using the place cards; it's a bit weird and too small to mail.
