Anyone working Full time and in school?

It's so stressful! Just wanted to see if there were others going through the same thing.

You can do it.  I worked full time and went to college full time.  It doesn't leave a lot of time for a personal life but is well worth it if it means graduating without student loan debt.

I worked full time in undergrad for the last two years after I left a division 1 sport team. Like tldh stated it's doable and is worth the effort to either prevent student loan debt entirely or even partially.  Every dollar you save from your student loan debt could potentially save $4-5 when you factor in the interest you accrue on that dollar.

Best of luck!! When's your wedding?

ETA: I see you're getting your Social Work Master''s degree -- I didn't work in med school b/c (a) absolutely no time to  (b) did an Army scholarship that paid for tuition, books and a small monthly stipend

  • I'll be graduating the end of next year but it feels like the time is moving so slow. My wedding date is February 2012- I wanted to be done with school before the wedding so we can relax and have a nice honeymoon.

Trisaratops- that is great you were able to get an Army scholarship. I checked out your bio- you and your FI look so cute together. I love the place you chose for the reception. It looks amazing.

  • Thanks Jaz (that's the nickname I'm giving you, haha)!! It should be a fun/cool place :-) The Army scholarship certainly helps out a ton, have to "pay" for school in a different way that works for me and my FI (he did the same scholarship).

I think you're very smart to have your wedding later, not only will you have more time to plan but you will also, like you said, enjoy it more. Congrats!! Keep up the good work with working and school, it WILL be worth it!!

  • I am a full time teacher as well as a three season coach and I am also in graduate school part time. It can be done but you need to be organized and on top of things. Make sure you set aside one hour to do something fun just for you- cooking dinner, going to the gym, painting your nails, something! It helps to have something to look forward to every day.

As others said, it doesn't leave a lot of time for doing anything outside of work or school. But it is worth getting everything done.

  • I started working full time in Feb., before graduating in May. That was super busy... I got engaged and started that job all the 2nd week of February!

Now I'm just working full time for the summer, then I start an online Masters program in the fall. My weddings Jan. of 2012 (waiting for FI to finish school...I'll be in my last semester when we get married). If all goes as planned, we'll have no student or car loans. Worth it! But stressful!
  • I worked full-time and often times part-time during my entire undergrad. The only reason I won't be working full-time during grad school is because of the awful schedule I have. The classes are spaced all throughout the day so there is no way I can work full-time and the school is a little over an hour away from where I live.

It is very doable you just have to prioritize.

  • I worked full time, went to school full time (5 classes a semester), bought a house and planned our wedding in 10 months. It was a very stressful time for me. I'm glad it's behind me now and I would not have chosen to get married in under a year but it was what was right for us. We pulled it all off but I wouldn't say it was a good idea. I had zero free time for almost a year and it was really difficult. However, once it's all over it's worth it!

  • My fiance and I both work full time, go to school full time, he plays rugby for our school, I also have an internship PLUS we are planning a wedding! I know what you are going through. We find time to go on dates and meet  up for coffee in between work and school. It is a struggle, but completely worth it!

Stick with it! You won't regret it when you are happily married and DONE with school. You will feel so accomplished! :)

  • I'm liking the Jaz nickname!

Thanks for the support. I'm going to take everyone's advice and just keep telling myself it will be worth it when it's all over. I guess some good things come with a struggle.

  • Yes, but I was working fulltime and going to school fulltime before we got engaged. It's stressful but I keep telling myself it'll be worth it in the end. If our budget can take it I might switch to part-time work for fall full-time classes.
  • I worked part time while I was an undergrad, but my FI has worked full-time and taken a full credit load (school year AND summer) in order to graduate with minimal debt. I think he's a super hero basically :). But he doesn't need much sleep, takes as many online classes as he can, and is VERY organized.
You can do it! Good luck!
  • Both my fiance and I work full time and we are both enrolled in college with three classes each.  It's been nuts, but I just keep thinking of the better days ahead! lol
  • Just as the ladies above, we have a full plate. I work 8 -- 5 (have a crazy long commute too!) and I am finishing up graduate school. My fiance works nights... so just imagine the fun schedule we have! I think it will all get better in time... it has to, right?
