Do Not Play List

So what is/was/will be on your DNP list?  Here's a few of mine:

Mony Mony
The Locomotion
The Macarena
Basically anything associated with a line dance of any kind
The chicken dance.

Everything listed, except for the line dancing. We had a LOT of line dancing.

The Cha cha song that I really hate... forget the name.
any Rap. We don't do the rap.
  • We started our dancing off with a conga line. It was fucking fantastic but I know not for everyone. We asked for no rap but our DJ sucked big time and played tons of it.

  • We did none of the songs like YMCA, Macarena, etc. also no rap, no Adele. I'd have to double check when I get home
  • No YMCA, Chicken Dance or Macarena and the beer goggles song (a country song from a few years ago). My brother and his best friend were the DJs and having known both of them for so long (my brother for all of my 23 years and J for 18 years), I didn't need to really make a no play list of specific genres or artists.
  • In our contract w/ the DJ, they specifically stated that they would not play the ymca, chicken dance, macarena, or hokey pokey unless requested by the bride and groom...which we of course did not request any of those haha!
  • We also put "In The Navy" because some people said it would be cute to be played and H despises the song.

We wanted the Electric Slide, and I told him only play the Chicken Dance if the younger kids asked for it (which they didn't).

Honestly I didn't worry too much about our no play list because as long as you have a good DJ he should be able to know the crowd and play accordingly.

  • No Chicken Dance, Electric Slide or line dancing of any kind because I HATE it!  Although we did bust out the rap music once some of the older guest left.  Although out DJ was really funny because he was like "y'all go from The Beach Boys to LMAFO."
  • I'm not sure yet which (if any) silly songs will make the cut - FI seems less opposed to YMCA, but vehemently opposed to the Chicken Dance, Macarena, Cotten Eye Joe, and all those group dance songs.  I HATE the Electric Slide, though I'm a fan of Macarena and Cotten Eye Joe, but I'll deal since they bother him so much.  I also think he's going to ban "We are Family".

We also said no break-up songs - "I Will Survive" being top of that list of ones that are a no-go.  We also listed the songs we associate with any ex - for instance, he was engaged before, so the wedding song she had picked out was nixed.

We don't want anything vulgar - we have a lot of older guests and very young guests, and I'd just prefer to keep it all family-friendly.  We don't need any grinding going on.  So rap is mostly out (it's crappy to dance to anyway).

Mostly we're going for 80's and 90's music to keep people singing along and dancing.

  • I put a music request line on my RSVP so I feel obligated to play the songs that get requested. But I am not too worry…I will have plenty of people to visit and talk with if a song gets played if I don’t like it.

Because we will be in a church (right below a church) there will be no unappropriate music…which is fine by me. I’m a huge fan of big band type music..stuff you can actually swing dance to…so we will probably do a lot of Michael Buble, Frank Senatra type music. Probably will stay away from rap except for the music that got requested…  I actually like line dances (probably the Country person in me), but they get everyone up and dancing and that is the goal right?

<div>Cha Cha Slide, I think. I don't have anything lined up as off-limits, but we'll see. We're just having a little trio, my family really doesn't do dancing receptions unless it's at an after-party sort of thing, and none of them will be staying the night, so we'll be shutting that down early and probably go out with friends to a nice bar.</div><div>

  • Anything like Hokey Pokey, Macarena, YMCA, chicken dance.

Only one polka song allowed (I'm from WI...very German state).

"Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy"

Anything by Rihanna or Bon Jovi.

    No sad/break-up songs.

  • Our DJ really "got" us so we basically said, no Justin Bieber and stick to club music from the early 2000s, after an hour or so of 80s and oldies but goodies stuff. It rocked. Our DJ also had an awesome online submission form so we were able to "request" a lot of stuff ourselves so he knew the vibe we were going for.

  • We put anything by Celine Dion, Michael Bolton and Taylor Swift on our do not play list. Oh, and no break-up songs.  We went to a wedding the month before and the band seemed to only know break-up songs. It was kind of weird to hear so many songs with lyrics that weren't appropriate for a happy occasion.
  • et al

    Plus.. SNM Rihanna.
