Card box

What did you/are you using as a card box?

I keep falling in love with ones $75+ on Etsy.  Must.Say.No.

I need some ideas! And I know bird cages are very popular, but my brother used one at his wedding and my family was VERY confused by it.  Most of the cards just ended up on the gift table and I don't want that.

We rented a birdcage holder from our florist... so I'm no help to you there.  I believe that you can rent card holders from Meredith Party Rentals that are decorative satin boxes with a hole in the top.  I think they had 2 or 3 styles to choose from when we were planning.  I might look to go that route because you likely won't ever use it again anyway.

I think I'm just going to make one on my own... I'm thinking about just taking a couple of shoeboxes, covering them with paper, and decorating it to look all pretty. It seems pretty easy and cheap. Plus, if you do it right, they turn out reeeeally nice.

Bought a treasure chest card box from hobby lobby during one of their 50% off everything bridal sales (usually once every other week!).  It only cost $20.

Now it stores my cards, wedding photo CDs, and other keepsakes from the wedding such as my leftover favors, etc. :D

This is what mine looks like (well except this is the one I copied, not the one I actually did with my pics in it). I can hunt up the website I used (or maybe it's linked in my bio somewhere) if you're interested.

ETA: Here's what mine looks like, except I didn't have the top done when I took the pic:

We are renting one for $20 from Candlelight Occasions, where we are getting some of our centerpieces from.

Honestly, I'd just rent/buy a really cheap one or use a large vase with a ribbon tied around it like kellyandtim said.  No one will remember it!

I bought a birdcage used from another bride. I'm going to put a card sign on it and hope people will know what to do. Like this....
