Wedding night hotel, to stay or not to stay

We are getting married in two weeks This is  a second marriage for both of us and I have 3 kids and he has 2. (I know you're think, well, good luck for that.) But here's the thing. We aren't doing a honeymoon (due to finances and time off work) but I really want to at least have the first night together away from the peeps and a tranquil morning together at a hotel. My fiancé doesn't see it this way. He says, "We'll arrive late after the wedding, be exhaused and only have breakfast together." He thinks it's silly to stay at a hotel. I think it's necessary to have some down time, even a night and morning before beginning with everyone together. Am I crazy? Advice please!!!!

If you don't stay at the hotel, where would you stay? Back at your house with your 5 kids?

Get the room and pay extra for a late checkout time ... or... better yet, why not stay an extra night and make it a mini-moon? Second time around or not, it's still important for the two of you to celebrate the start of your new marriage alone together :)

Then yes. Unless money is a huge factor, I think he should indulge your wish for a special wedding night alone. I don't think I'd spring for the honeymoon suite, but a standard king room so you can have some peace and quiet? That seems pretty reasonable.

I'm with you.  Even if you just enjoy the hotel for the peace and quiet, it would be worth it to me!

Yes, I would be staying at a hotel even if finances didn't allow anything for than a $39.99 room at the truck stop.  You need at least one night!  And if finances are an issue and you aren't picky about location, go to a blind site like hotwire or topsecrethotels.  I've stayed in some very nice places for less than $60/night just because there were no conventions in town and inventory was high.

We didn't, but if I was in your situation, I totally would!!!

As PPs suggested, spring for an extra night and have a mini-moon.
