Another "thinking ahead" ? for my fellow DW brides...

How many days in advance of your wedding are you (did you) getting in town?  My wedding is Saturday (rehearsal Friday evening) and I am thinking to come in on Wednesday, but since there are no direct flights to NOLA from SA, it will be mid-afternoon before I get there.  I'm starting to wonder if that is sufficient time.  I will need to take care of the license, having my dress and veil pressed after the flight, and assembling the Welcome Bags.  What other "tasks" am I forgetting to allot time for??

We drove in from Houston on a Thursday, arrived around 1pm. Got our marriage license and did a bar crawl friday, rehearsal saturday and wedding on sunday.
  • I'm planning to get in the Saturday before, but my parents live there.

  • We are flying in late Tuesday night and wedding is on Saturday.  We wanted to get in town early enough to a) get our marriage license without dealing with getting the waiting period waived and b) to relax and have fun before things get crazy.  I'd recommend building some days in there beforehand so you can breathe and take it all in.

Thank you for reading my mind!  This is really what I wanted to do and what I have been thinking, but FI & FMIL have been telling me I'm going a tad overboard by getting there so early (and I will be by myself until Thurs).  But I want to be calm (haha) and somewhat composed by the time guests start arriving on Thursday afternoon and actually be a hostess and enjoy that time as opposed to still running "errands."  Tuesday it is!! :)

  • We are coming from North Carolina and flying down the Monday before our Sunday wedding. It is 100% OOT, and we wanted to have time (like PP said) to get our marriage license and relax a little before our guests start getting into town.

  • Speaking of marriage licenses how far in advance can you get one?  We're getting married in November in NOLA, but are going there mid-April to meet up with some friends.  Too far in advance?  we don't have our officiate yet so assume that might play in to the timing issue...

  • licenses are only good for 30 days.  If both the bride and groom are from out of town, the officiant has the ability to waive the 3 day waiting period.  We checked with our officiant (a local judge) and they said hey would waive it for us since it's a destination wedding.  Just check with your officiant, or you could always go 3 days in advance
  • We are flying in the Tuesday before our saturday wedding
