birth control?

Unfortunately I was looking at my period tracker and I will more than likely be on my period during my wedding day and honeymoon : is there any way I could skip my period by going on birth control?

Re: birth control?

  • Yup you can just skip your sugar pills and take two packs one after the other.
  • Yes you can but you still may have spotting. Talk to your prescribing MD. Another option is the softcup. It's a flexible plastic up that covers your cervix and provides coverage for up to 12 hours. You also can have sex while it's in...Now I've never tried it, but a friend of mine swears by it.

  • I'm not sure I would be so quick to take advice from complete strangers ..... especially since we probably are not doctors, and not your doctor, and don't know what kind of bc you are on ... My best advice would be to talk to your doctor.

I used the Softcup while on my honeymoon.  They work great!

  • If you are not on BCP now I would not just go on it to skip your period for the wedding.  Everyone reacts differently to BCP.  Call your doctor as others have suggested.

  • Talk to your doctor. Even if they tell you that you can safely do it, going on a new pill, you have no idea what it will be like. I have heard from friends that when they "skipped," they had bleeding almost as heavy as a regular period. There is no guarantee.

FWIW, I got my period the first day of our Hawaii HM. Sure, it sucked (always sucks to get it on vacay), but it lasted for 3 days and we were there for 9. It was honestly NBD.

  • Yeah, if you're on HBC now, you could absolutely do this, but because everyone reacts differently to different types of hormones, there's no way to predict if it would work if you just started a brand-new type of pill.  (Horror story as an example- I had one friend who started one new type of pill and they made her bleed constantly for like two or three months before she got off them.)

But if everything worked perfectly, yes, you could go on birth control, skip the sugar pills, and time your period for whenever you wanted.  I did this the very first time I started taking the pill and it worked just fine.  You just can't guarantee it, especially if you've never used HBC before and don't know how your body reacts.

The same thing was supposed to happen to me!! About 3 months before our wedding I looked at my tracker and omg I was dying when I saw I was supposed to have my period on our wedding day. I was freaking out wondering what to do but after talking to friends, everyone just said to relax and not play with bith contol pills etc...Anyway I think because of the stress of the last month and the fact I lost 8 pounds, my period ended up coming THREE days late!! So no period on my wedding day!  Anway my point is, I wouldnt get too stressed about it, just because your tracker says you'll get your period on your wedding day doesn't mean you will and I  certainly wouldn't go on birth control just for one month. If you 've been on bith control before, there can be serious side effects..mood swings, bloating, weight gain. Not worth it in my opinion.Good luck!

  • Double check with your doctor, but mine told me to skip the sugar pills and start back on the regular pills for the month.  By doing that your changing the cycle of your period.  If i were you I would try it a couple months prior to see how you do with the changing of the cycle Laughing

  • Yes definitely check with your doctor...but for future, I swear by the mirena! I don't ever get my period....again, everyone is different but either for future or if you have enough time to switch to it (though it's good for up to 5 yrs- can be removed if wanting children sooner).

This.  Sometimes people spot, sometimes they're very moody due to hormones, sometimes ill and sometimes have initial breakouts, etc.  Talk to your doctor and see what s/he recommends
  • Mine started on wedding day and lasted our entire honeymoon essentially.....

We got through it and still had a wonderful time. I wouldn't stress over it too much.

    talk to your doctor.

  • Talk to your doctor and talk to your pharmacist. They will offer you good suggestions and advice that you can trust.

FYI, I tried to do this once, and ended up spotting for a month straight.  Regardless of what type of birth control you are on, and whether or not your doctor recommends it (mine told me to go ahead and do it), spotting is a very high risk.
  • Definitely talk to your doctor!!

I did the skip the sugar pill thing, and was thrown off my cycle and felt SICK the entire next month..

If you aren't on birth control yet, I used Vitamin K pills ONCE to delay my period (I was going on a trip to Texas, on a bus there and back, and didn't want to deal with it).  With the exception of me dropping a pill on the floor (obviously couldn't take that one), the pills worked awesome and I didn't get my period until a few hours before we got home (because of the dropped pill).

I do want to say there are RISKS with Vitamin K and any other form of delaying your period.  So before you do ANYTHING talk to your doctor!!
