Starting to get an idea of what we want.

Hi All,

Just got recently engaged and after a few weeks of coming up with a list of what we want/don't want we have settled on small (about 50) in Chicago, and ideally late next summer/early fall. The date isn't concrete, mostly because I feel like it will depend on what is available. That being said starting to look into venues. I've contacted a few of the usual places I've heard about to go start looking.

Getting excited to go start looking but also scared of getting overwhelmed. Any suggestions for a not-very-organized person to do all this with a very laid back fiance? Also wondering if anyone has any unique ideas in any of the neighborhoods? We live on the north side of town and aside from Ravenswood Event Center I don't really know where else to look.

Any suggestions would be great.

Thanks!

  • Prepare a budget and stick to it!  It's hard but you will feel a ton better when you follow through.  With a guest list of 50 your options are endless.  I heard that the Harold Washington library does weddings.  You may want to look at Chicago Park District website.  They have a lot of neat venues.

I was married at the harold washington Library. It would be a huge waste of money if you are only having 50 people. The place hold over 400 people and is priced accordingly. (ie not cheap) I also think it would look weird if you only filled up 1/4 of the room.

What about your favorite restaurant? Can you rent in out for the night?

The Ivy Room is beautiful. So is the River East Art Center.

  • Restaurants are a great way to go, and in my opinion it's awesome food over banquet halls or hotels.

  • River East Art Center is beautiful. I've seen weddings done at Selvage One that are pretty nice. The Stan Mansion is on the north side and is gorgeous, a vintage style mansion. With 50 guests you could also do a restaurant pretty easily, Fulton's on the river is very nice, or you could even rent out one of the boats that docks at Navy Pier to do your wedding on the lake.
