The top tier of our wedding cake is haunting me. I want it. It was good cake. It's been about 8 months since the wedding, and I still love that cake. If I mentioned it to DH, we would go bust it out right now and chow down. But I'm not going to tell him.
Instead, I will tell you. My wedding cake was so effing GOOD that I still want more 8 months after the fact. However, I will be good and wait 4 more months to eat it on our anniversary.
Maybe I can get a mini-cake from the same bakery for Valentine's Day. That would be romantic, huh? I bet I could even find the same champagne we drank at our reception. Ohhhh, yeah. Valentine's Day WIN.
DH is also a hopeless romantic and LOVES food. This plan would be a hit. Thoughts? Comments? Cake?
Re: Cake
what kind did you have jeana? i'm about to start looking around for someone to do my cake and i'm not sure what i want. ideas?
valentine's day cake and champagne sounds like a major win.
Have the cake say something about 'our first v-day" w/rings on it.
And the champagne, awesome. That sounds just, awesome. I bet your romantic DH would love it.
I'm having a dozen cupcakes in Caramel Creme Brulee, Red Velvet, and Chocolate Rasberry delivered for BFs birthday tomorrow. Not as romantic as your idea, but still delicious.
My friend didn't know about saving the top layer of the cake (I didn't either). The day after her sister's wedding, her mom found her in the kitchen eating cake.
"You're not supposed to eat that!"
"Oops."
Seriously, though. I've learned that things really shouldn't be in the freezer that long. I'm worried your cake won't taste as good after a year in there.

OMG. You should read the whole thing: <a href="http://hyperboleandahalf.blogspot.com/2010/10/god-of-cake.html" rel="nofollow">http://hyperboleandahalf.blogspot.com/2010/10/god-of-cake.html</a>
Leia - Technically, it all started with cake that could last outside of a freezer and you were to eat it either when your first child was born or first anniversary, whichever came first.

And yes, I love that idea of the little cake and champers.
Jeana- your post is full of wins. DO EETTTT!!!
Jeana, I think V day is the perfect excuse to get a bit of the same kind of cake while waiting for your first anniversary to roll around.
That said...you might just eat the frozen bit for V day, and get fresh for your anniversary. I get the sentimentality of eating the actual wedding cake on your anniversary, but...what if it is just not good after a year in the freezer? And then you're like, damn that's disappointing. And you don't want to feel disappointed on your anniversary.
Just a thought...
I love cake. And Gambino's is the best.

It's honestly the perfect blog to read when you're having a crummy day. I just pick something off of the "Best Of" on the right side and laugh and it makes my day better.
I really like ice cream. A lot. BF wants to serve an ice cream buffet instead of a cake. I'm totally down with that idea.
Jeana, your idea sounds really cute and I'm sure your DH will love it!
Bside, can I thank you for giving me the name of that blog??? I've been trying to find it for days - I saw it once or twice, but couldn't remember the name of it, and I was thinking of the demented dog the other day and wanted to read it. THANK YOU!

You're welcome!!! It's pretty much my favorite blog! <3 Also, her demented dog reminds me so much of my own demented dog it makes me shake with laughter.
I've been thinking about whether the cake will hold up in the freezer, but they wrapped it for us in plastic wrap, then foil, then put it in a box. I dunno, we'll see. It's sentimental but I don't think I'd be disappointed if it's stale. I'd just go get a replica from the bakery and try again.
That sounds good!!
We saved our and ate it on the 1 month anniversary. It was TASTY.
