Engagement shoot locations (No beaches!)

We love the beach so much we're getting married there, and are looking for a varied location for our engagement shoot.  I know some places (Descanso Gardens) charge, and others (Getty) don't "officially" allow you to shoot there.  Where have you been?  What did you like?

Thanks!

The great advice my photographer gave us was to pick a place that means something to you. So, we ended up taking our pics at UCLA, where I went to school and it is one of my happy places. We had a blast. We were going to do the Getty because we had our second date there. I know some people have done the Getty. If you do go there, just have a backup location in case they give you problems. :)

You should look at Quemiras's (LA knottie) photos.  She did a night shoot in downtown and they were amazing!

These (<---clicky) are Quemiras's photos from her photographer's, Nataly Lemus, blog.

We actually did ours at The Getty and had no problems whatsoever.

Here are some of our shots!

Bradbury building downtown. We did our wedding pics there and at the Walt Disney concert hall. We also considered Angel's flight and the Central Library.

Here are some on my photog's blog from our shoot at the Bradbury building:

I haven't done mine yet.  But I have been browsing photographers' blogs for ideas.  The Observatory/Griffith Park is a popular one....disney concert hall.

Greystone mansion is another I like - but I think you do have to get a permit if you are doing wedding/engagement photos there.

    hope it helps!

These are great!  Thanks for sharing your own pictures!

I wanted to do my college, but it's in San Diego, more than the "within 2 hour" limit for our shoot (which we won from a bridal fair -- yeah!).

Fiance is more into outdoors (hiking, backpacking) and such, so I've been trying to find something that blends my city-love with his nature side...

Maybe doing them up on Mulholland? Griffith Park has great views as well, so you can get in nature and city views.

My Fiance and I recently took our engagement photos at the LA Arboretum (in Arcadia/Santa Anita).  I didn't want a beach eaither but I didn't want to have to pay some huge admission for us to get in somewhere.  Plus, a lot of places charge you crazy fees to shoot there ($300!).  The arboretum is $8 a person, we were there for several hours and no one bothered us, and they have a great mix of gardens and architechture that made for beautiful pictures.  Good luck!

Nataly Lemus did our engagement pics as well and we did ours in Downtown Pasadena and Pasadena City Hall. There were a ton of different photo op spots. The colors were so beautiful out there.
