Help - would you follow up?

I emailed an application for a job on June 29th. The guy responded three days later to thank me for applying and said they would be reviewing my app that week and would try to get back to me later in the week (this was the week of the 4th of July, and I know the guy was out of town for a couple days). I still haven't heard anything, which is a bummer. Would you accept that they weren't impressed and let it be, or would you send a follow up email? If so what you would you say?

    I would send a follow up email, and just say that you were following up and that you are still very much interested in the position and hoping for an interview.  Can't hurt!

    I'm so glad I did that, I already got a response from them! The guy had the flu and then some work to catch up on, and said next week they're planning to review everything. I feel much better now. And thanks Girlie!
