Maid of Honor/Matron of Honor - Best Friend/Sister - HELP!

My sister is 11 years older than me but we are still very close, due to our age I was only a junior bridesmaid in her wedding (her best friend was her MOH, which of course was nbd at the time). But I have a very close friend who I would love to be my maid of honor, but I have also always imagined having my sister as my Matron of Honor. Is it possible to have both? I don't know what to do! How do I choose? My Mom insists that it must be my sister, but I am just not sure. Please let me know your opinions/thoughts/etc!
By the way we just got engaged the other day on vacation so I haven't announced any maids or anything yet.

I have a similar situation and have one maid of honor and one matron of honor.  My sister is my maid of honor and my best friend is my matron of honor!  My sister is only going to be 16 at the time of our wedding and so I thought it would be more appropriate to have a matron of honor too, so that way she can help with the planning of the wedding, bachelorette party, and bridal shower.  It is completely fine to have both!

My cousin had a good friend as a Matron of honor and our Aunt as maid of honor. I think it gives a wedding a neat touch. I agree with PP abotu waiting to choose i asked a friend to be in my wedding and we ended up loosing our frendship over the wedding (not that i was upset about it) She was not part of my wedding which was for the best I dont want to see you end up in that situation.  Wait on bp. I asked my BFF since i was 7 to be my MOH the night i got engaged but that friendship will never change :-). Enjoy the planning dont get caught up in the drama of it all. April 9thj came and went so fast and now I am married 3 months... CRAZY

You can definitely do both!! It's very common!

But I second PP's advice, wait until 6-9 months before your wedding to ask your BMs and MOHs. Friendships change drasitically as time goes by. Be excited with your girlfriends but hold out until 2012 before you pick your besties to be in the wedding.

    Congrats!!

I want to thank ALL of you for your wonderful advice!! Thanks so much!! It is really helpful and I am glad to hear that what I was thinking wasn't that far off :) I will definitely take the advice on waiting to ask my friends as well. I know my relationship with my sister won't change but I will wait on the girlfriends.

Thank you all again and congrats to all of you as well :)
