One thing you're glad you registered for!

I'm planning to start registering soon. My FI and I lived alone for a while, and now live together, so we have a lot of the household stuff you would normally register for if you're just starting off. But, we're looking for suggestions about what we absolutely need to get! We know we want all new bedding, everyday dishes and bathroom stuff (shower curtain, toothbrush holder, etc), but we really want advice from couples that have "been there, done that" and have one or two items they use all the time/are glad they registered for! Thanks for any suggestions! :)

Re: One thing you're glad you registered for!

  • A few things we really enjoy using:

    1. T-Fal Ultimate Hard Enamel Fry Pan--on our Amazon registry, it's great for eggs, stir fries, etc.  We have mostly stainless cookware, but I really like this one nonstick.

    2. William Sonoma Gold Touch loaf pans and cake pan--on our Amazon universal registry.  DH wanted to register for these since they were recommended by Cooks Illustrated, and I was skeptical at first, but they really do make a difference.

    3. Measuring cup sets.  One Pyrex, one Oxo brand (the ones with the slanted inside so you can read the measurement from above).  So nice not to have to keep washing out our one measuring cup.

    4. Mark Bitman's How to Cook Everything Vegetarian.  I love this cookbook--we registered for a few cookbooks on Amazon, and we got all of them.  I think it's an inexpensive gift that stands on its own as a gift (I'd rather buy a $20 cookbook than a $20 trivet to give as a gift).
  • Food processor and our Kitchen Aid mixer (I bake a lot).  I don't think I could live without them.

  • The Kitchenaid Stand Mixer and the Tri-Ply Calphalon pots and pans.  DH loooves the Dyson vacuum.  We also use the roasting pan more than we thought we would.

  • So far, my favorite gifts have been a KA stand mixer and this small step wastebasket for the bathroom (SimpleHuman):

    Anniversary
  • My mom and I kept a list of things we used or wished we had to make life easier for about a month before deciding on a registry.  Things we saw at friends houses, things that were old and needed replacing, things we saw at stores, etc.
  • Things I love that we got from our registry:

    1) A Keurig
    2) A new vacuum cleaner
    3) Nice, plush towels
    4) memory foam pillows (heaven!)
    5) stand mixer
    6) a really nice knife set
    7) tupperware/Pyrex (honestly, who couldn't use more tupperware? I bring lunch to work every day and use it like crazy!)

  • I have a cake platter that turns into a punch bowl.  I love it.  http://www1.macys.com/shop/product/luigi-bormioli-4-in-1-cake-plate?ID=244576&PseudoCat=se-xx-xx-xx.esn_results

    DH loves our breadmaker.

  • Thanks everyone! Great tips! I actually have been keeping a list of things, but I know I'm forgetting something and/or want advice from people who have done it before me! Thanks!!
  • So glad we included the super fancy corkscrew. And the really beautiful (though completely simple) picture frames.

Also our really great air mattress.

I love our duvet and duvet cover.

    And our towels.

People tend to shy away from purchasing linens and towels off registries for some reason. But these things are so great to get. If you are serious about wanting this stuff, maybe limit some of the other items on the reigstry to encourage their inclusion.

China storage boxes!  We didn't register for them, but a very thoughtful guest gave us a beautiful and decorative set.  Even better that they are rigid - and are meant to be displayed on kitchen/dining shelves.  We use them more often having them be more accessible and displayed.
