Wedding Dress Woes

Hey fellow Arkansans!  I have a wedding dress catastrophe that I would like to share with you all 1) because I need to vent and 2) because I want to warn you.

I bought my wedding dress from David's Bridal in North Little Rock in December. I tried on TEN dresses that day and my shopping experience was verging on miserable (my salesperson was not that great), but I loved the last dress and decided to buy it even though it was missing the hook on the back. Four David's Bridal employees looked at my dress including the manager and the alterations specialist.  All of them told me that it was totally fixable and not going to be a problem.

I went back at the beginning of January for my first fitting. This was the second time I had ever put the dress on; it hadn't even left the bag since the day I bought it. This time, I put on my dress, the alterations specialist zipped me up and immediately said: "Oh this damage is unrepairable."
Apparently the missing hook had created a hole and the stitching was falling out.  I was upset, but they reassured me that they would order me a brand new dress and it would be here on April 14th (ten days before my wedding...).

I called the corporate office and spoke to their customer service representative. She expedited the shipping of my dress and called me when it left the warehouse. It was only going to take a week to get here and I was to call the store to check on it this week.

I called yesterday and spoke to the same store manager that sold me the damaged dress in the first place. She had bad news. She had ordered the white dress instead of the ivory dress. She didn't want me to know about it because she knew I would be upset and thats why she didn't call when it came in. The "white" and "ivory" button are right beside each other on the computer and she was in such a rush that she clicked the wrong one (!!?!)

I was pretty livid at this point, and I told her what was up and where to take it. Yell She said my REAL, NEW dress wouldn't be there until mid-February or early March. (......) Then I further told her how upset she was making me and how she had turned what was supposed to be a happy event for me into a horrible stressor.

Today, I took my original, damaged dress back and got my money.

I know that I probably could have waited and gotten the same dress in mid-February and been okay, but the attitude of the manager that I spoke with was not worth dealing with. Besides, I thought it would come in fine the first time she reordered it and she wasn't competent enough to order the right color. Who knows what kind of dress would've came in the second time around.

I just wanted to share my story with you all so that you can be prepared if you are going to be shopping at the North Little Rock David's Bridal. The dresses there are lovely and at a great price, but sometimes dealing with poor service just isn't worth the stress.

Now I'm back on the market for a wedding dress, if anyone has any suggestions about where I could shop, I would definitely appreciate it.   I'm looking for something in a similar style of my original dress, but hopefully with less drama around it. Wink

Wow, I'm so sorry to hear all of the stress that you have been through!  That really stinks that whoever seems to be so poor at doing their job.  I'm a teacher and can't imagine what repercussions I would face if I accidentally clicked the wrong grade on the computer since they're next to each other!

What was the style of your original dress?  I'd love to see it!

I got my dress from DB in WLR and had no problems, but I bought a dress that had just come in the day before I tried it on so I knew that practically no one had tried it on.  If you like mine (see pics in bio) I'll sell it to ya!  I'm sorry I have no other suggestions...my parents live in NY and I went to David's because I wanted to narrow down some choices before going with her at home and knew they would have similar stock.

GL and please keep us updated - and with pics!

Head east to Brinkley and go to Lowe's Bridal.  Its the biggest wedding dress shop in the south...they carry all price points and wonderful dresses.  You can tell them you want to buy off the rack and only look at ones in your size, or you can order.  They are FABULOUS and have great customer service.

Or Alfred Angelo in LR was helpful too....I just didn't love any of their dresses.  Good luck!

    Thanks guys!

I ended up finding a beautiful dress in Conway (at 40% off the tag price!)! It is the absolute perfect dress. I love it!  It has beaded straps that dip down low in the back, and it has a v-neck in the front. It's sexy without being totally inappropriate. I wish I could wear it all the time...

I'll have to post a picture once I get it all altered and (even more) perfect looking.

I second Low's. I went there 3 weeks ago and got my dress there. They are super nice and take their time with each customer.

The best part..I was on a budget and they have a floor that is strictly dresses that are on sale only. (all the dresses on the sale floor are 50% off. ALL  OF THEM.)

If you do decide to go here, make sure you call and make an appointment first. I had the earliest appointment of the day at 10 and so did 5 other girls. But I felt like I was the only one there.

    HTH!

I picked up my maid of honor dress for my best friend's wedding at DB in NLR. The staff there act as if you walking in takes away from their talking time. The staff in WLR was so friendly and helpful though.

I've heard good things about Lowe's also though. Thanks for letting me know it's in Brinkley!

The Bridal Cottage on JFK is awesome! I found my dress there and the service was amazing, great selection of styles and prices!
My FI's cousin is getting married in a few weeks and she had an absolutely horrible experience with the NLR DB also, so i canceled my appointment to try on dresses there. I can't believe how horrible and rude the maanger and sales people are there!
OP-glad you found your dress :)
