Wedding Invitations & Paper

Labels

Hi All,
I've been reading on a couple of posts that using address labels for the envelopes are a big no-no, but the FI and I have horrible and crooked writing....lol
Our color scheme is pink and brown. The envelopes that the invitations are going in are brown, so running them directly through the printer does no good because it just doesn't show up. What I did was purchase pastel pink address labels and printed the guests names and addresses in brown on them. Is it still a no-no if I did that?
Thanks in advance for advice and feedback!

Re: Labels

  • Since you already bought the labels, printed them, looks like you're sending them no matter what other knotties say...I personally think it sounds okay since the printer printing wouldn't work and you're staying within color scheme........
  • what if you print the names on the labels in a very light font color the same color as the label, and then trace over them with a fine tipped sharpie or paint pen? i've seen people do that and it came out awesome.

i think it is kind of a faux pax to print them, but if you use a flourishy or font that looks almost handwritten, it's not the end of the world.

at the end of the day, how many people are really going to be looking at your envelope for more than 2 seconds? do you remember what the outside of the envelope of the last wedding invite you got looked like? don't sweat the small stuff! there's too much big stuff! :)

  • I really think that handwritten is much better.  If you don't like your handwriting, maybe you have a friend or sibling that would be willing to come over and help you?  Depending on how many you have, I think most people would be willing to come over and help if you made dinner and provided a drink or two. :)

  • Personally...I think labels looks cheesy.  I don't have the neatest handwriting, so my mom addressed all of the envelopes and they look great.

  • Labels are becoming more common, especially pretty ones that coordinate with the invitation.

We did wrap around labels on our invitations and I thought they were pretty.  I don't get so hung up on the handwriting thing honestly.

  • we only used labels on things like thank you cards, and only for the return address.  We used the clear ones so even though you can tell they are there, they don't looks as flashy saying "look at me, I am a lable". I really wished I would have gotten a stamp with the return address on it to save me a TON of writing!  It adds a very personal touch for people to know that you took the time to write.  I would ask a friend or sibling or a parent to help...or just grab a ruler and take it slowly and do your best.  I don't have great writing, but my fiance has HORRIBLE writing, so I hand wrote every single one myself, and he stuck the stickers and seals and stamps on it.  And on brown, I would would use a pink gel pen to write the names.
We had really dark purple envelopes and silver pens and it looked beautiful...minus my horrible hand writing.
