DIY?

Hey ladies,

So, as we have been planning our wedding, we are realizing that things cost wayy more than we thought (i.e. photography, videography, flowers, stage decor, etc.) so I am trying to think of what I can DIY.

I have been reading posts on TK DIY board, but with American weddings, I feel like they have more time to DIY centerpieces and such b/c they only have one day and everything for the reception can be done the day before.  Obviously, that is not the case for South Asian weddings as many are 3/4 days long.

Any suggestions on where I can save $$?

I have already decided to DIY STDs (Adobe Illustrator and VP), we will be going to india (my mom works at American, so cheap flights) so we will save on clothing, linens for the tables, favor boxes, and most paper goods (programs, invites, and thank you cards), DIY ring pillow, decorated champagne flutes, and escort cards (VP).  What else can I DIY?

Thanks ladies!!

I think your list of the items to get from India will be good and covers a lot of the things you can also DIY.

I'll try to think of more, but here is what we DIY'd:

    - invitations
    - menus
    - favor bags
    - candy buffet (although the venue set it up for us)
    - escort cards
    - programs
    - bangle basket (I had bought wholesale bangles from India and tied them into small sets for our guests to take.)

Hope that helps a bit. I know another knottie, KPwedKK did a lot of DIY for her wedding, I am sure she will have more suggestions for you!

I did the following DIY projects:

    - Wedding programs made the design and template here, had them printed in India for super cheap
    - Wedding welcome signs for ceremony and reception hall
    - Pomanders to match our color scheme

I still have the following to do:
    - Decor for entry tables (photos of all the married couples in our family).
    - Wedding favors

Thanks Neetu, I really like your suggest for the entry tables decor!! I was trying to think of something that would make an impact and I just thought of flowers in various vases and heights, but I really like your idea.  It will definitely make a huge impact and it's less costly. :)

What are you making your pomanders out of?  Tissue paper?  Silk petals?

@Neetu:  when you went to india, you mentioned that you had your programs printed.  Did you have your design saved on a flashdrive or did you e-mail the file to the printer?  Small detail, but I want to be prepared when I go.

    Thanks!!
