to serve supper, or not to serve supper...

Hi Gang!! I hope you all are doing very well.  I have been traveling a ton for work and feel like I haven't had a chance to catch up with all of you until today.  looks like there is a lot of checks and awesomeness happening in everyone's lives! hooray!!

So here is where we stand right now with catering....we are on the fence about serving a full meal or not.  Our ceremony will take place at 3:30pm (3 is going on the invitation to account for my FI's family, i.e. "Cuban Time" as he calls it! LOL) So we are not technically having a 5 or 6pm wedding where a traditional dinner would be expected.  We are trying to cut some costs so we are thinking of heavy apps, probably six total to be passed and some to be picked up at a station.  We are having our ceremony and reception at the same location: Thalatta Estate so we have to create some movement from the ceremony to the cocktail hour to supper.  What do you girls think about not having an all out dinner and just the apps/tapas/stations?  Feed back from y'all is always so helpful! TIA!!!
Katie :)

  • I think it will ultimately depend on what type of apps/tapas/stations you are considering offering. If you have a mix of light and heavy apps then I think you should be fine. How many guests will you be having at your wedding? Also, make sure you ask the ratio of apps per guests. It will give you a better estimate on how many you will need depending on your guest list.

  • I love tapas! I am a pretty big eater and I get pretty full with having a good selection of tapas. The ones I usually order have some type of protein in it which fills you. I think Daisy it the nail on the head when she mentioned it depends what you are considering offering. Around 6-7pm is dinner time for most so you want to make sure guests are not going to be hungry and leave your reception due to that (which is always a possibility). If you decide to go with the apps route then let your guests know about this so they don't go to your wedding on an empty stomach.

It's tough to stick with a budget...we're in the same boat!
  • we are planning on about 130 guests.  I am from Atlanta and Danny is from Miami so we were goin to half the apps and have three Southern Style and three Spanish style.  It should be really yummy!!

  • We did a cocktail reception and it was great! Our ceremony was at 2pm and we served a mix of heavy apps, beef strips w/ sauce, and light ones: bruchetta and olive tapenade ect. We had beer and wine and a siggy cocktail. With cupcakes for dessert. It worked out great, people partied like it was night time! So it can work, just like PP said though make sure you make it clear on the invitations it's not going to be dinner. We put "cocktial reception to follow" at the bottom of the invites. Have fun!
