Newberry Brides

For anyone out there who has had/will be having their wedding at the Newberry Library - what are you planning on doing (or did you do) for music during the cocktail hour?  We were planning on hiring either a pianist or some other type of musician to play during the cocktail hour, however, this weekend I spoke with someone whose daughter had her wedding there and she said that they had a pianist but the acoustics in the entrance hall weren't great and you couldn't hear the piano.  Anyone have a similar experience?  I don't want to hire musicians if you won't be able to hear them at all.

well our DJs set up remote speakers in the lobby during cocktails - it sounded great.

We had our reception and cocktail hour at the Newberry back in June 2009.  We had a similar experience and the sound was really muffled during our cocktail hour.  Our guest were too involved in chit chatting and imbibing themselves to even notice the lack of music, even though we had a remote speaker our dj set up.  I check back on the boards from time to time.  Feel free to PM me if you have any questions about the Newberry.

The Knot board was so helpful to me in my planning and I want to pay it forward.  :)

We're planning on having our DJs set up remote speakers.  Hopefully it will work!

    Hi ladies!

I am now officially a Newberry Bride-to-Be and I was wondering if you had any advice for me? Or anything else that I should be aware of in terms of planning my wedding there aside from the acoustics with the cockail hour (something I hadn't even thought about!)?

    Thanks so much! :)

We are planning to hire a pianist since there's already a piano in the lobby. I think a harpist would be nice too, but that would take up quite a bit of room. I went to a wedding there once before and the cocktail hour felt a bit cramped with 175 guests in the lobby.
