If you have kids or are planning to...

DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT let them watch anything but Barney, Sesame Street, Magic Schoolbus and the occasional Dora/Diego/Handy Manny for the bi-lingual concept...Today @ school my precious little boy made another boy cry...why you ask? Because he told him he was going to "beat up and kill his mother"

you read it right...and I KNOWWWW it is from television - DH let's him watch Cops and occassionally if he's really into a movie (that little J should by no means be watching) continue to watch it while he's sitting right there playing

I am beyond mortified, you have NO idea, I'm seriously embarrassed to even bring him to school tomorrow I don't know what to do or say.  I'm writing an apology letter to the other kid's mother now and am going to make Justin trace an apology letter as well.  he is "grounded" to his room for the rest of the night and no longer is anyone in the household allowed to watch anything that isn't rated 'Y' (while J is awake) - I am also taking away all of his toy guns, etc.

I forget, how old is your son?

I would just speak to the mother directly. You do not need to write a letter. I think it's a nice gesture that you're making your son trace one.

Kudos to you.  Kids do stupid things and you're taking the right steps for him to understand that he was wrong.

... I can't help but chuckle to myself though too... It's kind of funny! Bad but funnyTongue out

Oh boy. It's amazing what little kids pick up, isn't it?

I'm sorry you're dealing with this, but ditto Tif in that you're doing the right things to correct it.

I wish more parents took these steps to keep their kids from picking up behaviors like this ... I know so many parents who swear in front of their kids, let the kids get away with foul language or nasty behavior and/or let them watch really violent movies ... and you just *know* the kids are going to grow up to be giant pieces of trash. Sad.

I would totally talk to the mother - but I drop off J (who btw will be 4 years old in December) at different times than the other boys mother does and then big J picks him up (different times each day depending on where he's working) so that's why I wrote the letter so I at least know it'll get to her immediately.

We definitely don't swear in front of him (sometimes it does slip I'm not gonna lie) but the TV is the worst - DH is always watching some BS that I keep telling him is NOT ok for little J to watch

    ...not anymore

My friend's husband lets their 3 year old daughter watch COPS too. One day, they were in the car and saw a cop car. The little girl yelled, "Run!" She said that when you see cops, you are supposed to run.

Aww I can't imagine how you must feel.  That's definitely a good decision on your part to let the other mother know how sorry you are.

But don't beat yourself up.  All kids do things to embarass their parents sometimes.  At least you're letting him know what he did wasn't nice, and are taking actions to correct it.  Kudos to you. Smile

Cindy- that is really disturbing and WAY different! Where did she learn that?

LOL- to the "run from cops" comment!

DH's cousin was mortified when her son had to draw a picture in school of his favorite game and he drew a beer pong table! Apparently she's been partying in front of him too much.

I guess I should add my story to this.

My aunt was just telling my grandmother a story about her youngest grandson who's about 10.

Apparently on the first day of school, the teacher made them go around the classroom and say their name, their age, and something about themselves.

So on my cousins turn, he stands up and says "my name is ***, I'm 10 years old, and I'm an alcoholic."

Needless to say, the teacher ended up questioning his parents on whether they were having problems at home.

its disgusting :(  it breaks my heart to see kids cannot be KIDS anymore... they are trying to be mini-adults as soon as they can start walking & talking.  makes me want to move to some island with no people or media influence and raise my children like george of the jungle!
