Has anyone....

... thought about place cards for tables yet?

I saw a cute idea on the main page of TK yesterday, and the more I've thought about it, the more I think it's doable.  They took a wine bottle cork and cut a slit in it and placed the card in the slit.  The cork had a small stabilizer piece on the bottom so it wouldn't roll.  I looked on ebay last night and you can get 200 corks for about 15 bucks.  The stabilizer pieces would probably be something we could get at the wood shop at FI's work... and we have a glue gun :)

Now for the cards... are you guys ordering them or making your own?  I was thinking about doing my own and maybe printing at Staples with some nicer paper and a design or something.

Suggestions, comments, what your doing are all welcome... ready, set, go!

Re: Has anyone....

  • I think we're just going to get ours through our invitation designer, but if we hadn't my plan was to make little tents out of a patterned cardstock and glue on a simple white card on front for the name.

  • I love the wine cork place card holders, initially I thought it ws somethign I might use.  After honing in on decorations though, I think we will do the birch logs with slits sawed into them to hold the cards.

Part of my invitation suite that I'm havign desinged by the wonderful Studio G designs (clicky) includes a card design.  We are havign her print eveything, buying our own paper and envelops and then a local printer is printing everything.

  • I like the corks as holders idea- but could you maybe use a magnet as the stabilizer and then if they want to take it they want?

Just because you saw it on Four Weddings, doesn't mean it's a good idea.
  • We're doing corks! We're using 3 (2 on the bottom and 1 on the top... Think pyramid haha), wrapped in navy ribbon and accented with pearls. For the cards we are going to buy cards stock and make them. We're making our invites too so we'll use the same font and pieces of the design in them. I've had family and friends save corks so it's been super cheap. We have about 130 corks and need about 60 more! If you google wine cork place holders there are a lot of DIY. I'm also in the process of putting together a tutorial on my blog... But I've been slacking ;) Good luck and let us know!

    <div>I like this :)  </div><div>
</div><div>Nice to hear other people are considering doing this.  I am leaning toward making my own design for the card that will incorporate our colors and buy some card stock and get it printed somewhere.  I'm not concerned with it being "matchy matchy" with the invites.  I didn't even think of that, and I think it would stress me out too much.  </div><div>
</div><div>Also... FI and I are doing themed tables instead of numbers.  Each table will be the name of a town/place that is special to us, whether it's where we are from, where he proposed, etc.  On the table will be something that explains the place etc.  Maybe a trifold looking thing.  I don't know, this might be too much.  I will keep everyone posted on how it goes.</div>
  • I like the cork ideas! I wish I could do that, but I don't have a wine theme.

Currently my place cards will be:

We love flowers and these work out to be tropical which is fitting for my FI & I. They are origami flowers and they aren't that bad to make. I've already done a sample one with paper and it wasn't bad. So these are super cheap since I just need paper and a little clip for the middle. I'll be hand writing the couple/individuals name on them.

  • We're not doing place cards; guests will be assigned tables but not seats (other than the bride and groom haha)

It's too bad you didn't live here because I have 2 bags full of corks in my craft supplies :P

  • We're doing like junebug19 and not doing assigned seats. We're short on space so we're doing long buffet tables so assigning tables isn't practical and I don't see a need for assigned seats for our small(ish) guest list. BUT... we still wanted people to be able to mark their seats so it's not stolen while they're at the buffet. We're going to do birch slices with slits cut into them and insert cardstock. Like this:

Wood is free since FI will be cutting it from local wood himself so all we have to do is buy the cardstock. I plan on hand writing the names. It'll be a long-time labor of love, but I figure I can do all the people we know will come then finish as RSVPs come in. Haven't deced about stamps or anything but that would be the only other thing to buy for these.
