After party

So I have a question regaurding my after wedding party. We will be having a moderately sized wedding (about 200 people). Because we must be out of the venue by 11pm my parents are renting a town house owned by the hotel/venue (and across the street) and hosting an after party. The after party does not have an end time or anything like that, it is not going to anything formal/will not be on invitation, but we will be supplying additional food and drinks. Obvously the town house cannot accomodate every single one of our guests, and I'd like something a bit more intimate at that point anyway as we continue to celebrate -- is it acceptable to just invite people by word of mouth closer to the wedding? Of course anyone who is staying at the hotel is more than welcome to come, I am not hiding it from anyone, but I also do not want to make a big ordeal of telling anyone and everyone at the wedding to come. Has anyone else done soemthing like this? How did you deal with invites?

I would just say "Hey, we're going to be across the street and have a get together after the reception if you would like to come!"

Word of mouth would be the best way to invite people. That will probably help keep it to "circles" too; circles of friends, family who stays out late, etc.

I would also do word of mouth. You could even mention it to people on the night of the wedding. As the night goes on, some people will naturally start to head out. You can then go around to those who are still there who you want to invite and just tell them in person.

You could also have your DJ announce it at the end of the night. Ask him to not reference it throughout the night. That way, the late night crowd will still be at the wedding and the ones who don't like staying out late will probably have already left.

I agree with PP, just have the DJ or you can, announce something at the end of the night. The people who left early, probably wouldn't come anyways and for those that are still there partying, they can continue the party there.

I think as long as you don't hide it from anyone, you're fine to just do word of mouth. That's what my family did after my sister's wedding and it worked out fine. Just make sure that you do include anyone who overhears/asks/anything like that, even if you weren't really planning on having them there.
