I am looking for some "appetizers" I can make on my own and have set out at the hall for when guests arrive. I am looking for snacks that are cheap but not tacky.
The guests will only have to wait at the hall for about 45 min while we take pics outside on the golf course.
I am going to make 2 cheese & cracker trays for sure (which will include those little spicy sausage things). Maybe chocolate covered cherries or strawberries? But I think strawberries could get expensive though.
We have 180 guests but 20 are standing up so they won't be there for cocktail hour. Also, there will be about 20 kids.
thanks in advance for the ideas!
Re: appetizer ideas please
Planning Bio-Added FOR SALE page, will be adding more stuff to it soon!
Will someone be able to heat the appetizers up before putting them out? If not, stick with things that are best served cold or at room temperature. I wouldn't do the strawberries and chocolate. That's something I associate with dessert rather than hors d'oeuvres, but fruit like grapes and melon would work.
mini quiches
marinated olives (do it yourself - orange rind, fennel seed and pepper flakes is my favourite version)
prosciutto wrapped melon
crab or shrimp salad in filo cups
blue cheese stuffed dates
mixed nuts
summer rolls
gourgeres (cheese puffs)

Here's a few more ideas that would be pretty simple to pull off,,,
Pickled shrimp
Bruschetta
Grape tomatoes stuffed with smoked salmon mousse
Chicken Satay
Tapenade, Hummus or Baba Ghannouj with Pita points
I used quotes because I guess I just don't really consider cheese and crackers an appetizer. More of a snack in my opinion.
I will definately do the mini quiches & bruchetta

Hm. You didn't refer to crackers and cheese until your next paragraph.
Sorry. I'm an English teacher. I spend my days railing against air quotes. They're the bane of my existence.

if your sticking to cold, i think fruit is good but you don't necessarily need to do chocolate covered fruit. shrimp cocktail... hummus/dip and veggies/crackers... bruschetta... dumplings/egg rolls... stuffed mushrooms... sorry, that's all that's coming to mind at the moment.
