Wedding Ceremony & Reception Music Discussions

Ceremony Music

We are holding our wedding at an outdoor country club. The ceremony is very short and the location has a bar for people to grab drinks prior and after.  It is outdoor and on the casual side.

Any suggestions for music selection.  The location is a private country club that does not specialize in weddings.  We are renting the space and doing it all on our own.  Should we have music playing the entire time outside even if people are inside grabbing a beverage?  Do we play MP3s or get a live musician?  Our reception is in a separate location so using our dj is not an option as he will need to be setting up at the house where reception is being held.

Help

ps - we are in Las Vegas

Thanks!!!

It's up to you!  You don't "have" to do any of these things, despite what The Kn$t says.  It depends on what you want to do, and your budget - how much do you have allotted for music/entertainment? (Rhetorical question, you don't have to answer).

Advantage of playing MP3's: You can rent a sound system and put music on your iTunes, get an exact playlist, and use "crossfade" - voila, background music.  (The place where you rent the sound system should tell you how to hook up your iTunes to the sound system).  This will probably be cheaper.

Musician - will probably be more expensive, but some people prefer live music, it doesn't seem as if this is crucial to you.
DJ's will try to tell you that YOU NEED SOMEONE LIVE TO GET THE "FEEL" OF THE ROOM, which is wayyy overrated, particularly if it's a more low-key event.  Just put some nice background music on your laptop, and you're set.

As for music selection - what type of music do you like?? Jazz? Classical? Country? Soul/R&B? As long as it "sounds nice" in the background and (in some cases) doesn't have any extremely offensive lyrics, go with the style that you like!

A general rule is to have "3 of a kind" like if you're going to transition from country songs to jazz songs, do 3 country, 3 jazz, 3 R&B....

Again it seems like this isn't your #1 priority (which is fine) and to which I'd say - you don't "have" to have music, maybe this is something to skip if you don't have a preference/don't have the budget for it.
