Plus-Sized

So frustrated...vent

I've got two months til the wedding and all the stress about the details, money, etc has gotten to me. I've been trying to lose a little weight before the big day and with all the stress its not working. I tend to lose and gain back.
Well, I finally purchased new jeans the other day (haven't bought any in a few years), they are the same size I've been wearing just a different cut and they felt really good. Well I went to my mom to show her, because I am going to need her help hemming them up just a bit, since I'm short.
She's looks at me and says, It looks like you've gained weight. Have you? I snapped at her Yes, I've gained weight and walked out.
Why do people insist on telling you things, like you don't already know these things about yourself. What do you mean I've gained weight? Oh, really? I hadn't noticed!
I was feeling really good and that was not what I needed.
Thanks for listening.

Your mom and my mom sound like they could hold hands and walk to church together.

I'm sorry that she was being inconsiderate and rude by pointing that out. It always shocks me when my mother will say things like that to me...but will not say things like that to her friends. I don't know why it STILL shocks me since it has been happening for 33 years now! I will never understand how she can be more condsiderate of her friends' feelings than her own daughter's. Undecided

Just remember that your FI loves you just the way you are....curves and all.
  • I'm sorry that happened to you. I agree with the PP. You have a FI who loves you just the way you are. Focus on him, and try and forget about what your mom said to you.

  • Parents can be really thoughtless sometimes. Just because she birthed you does not mean her words can't hurt.

Sorry she made you feel bad!

  • My grandma is the same way, and she wonders why neither I or my sister really have a relationship with her. She's incredibly stuck up and treats her friends far better than her family, and always puts out the 'perfect' image of our family. My aunt and uncle have distanced themselves from her, and have continued to live almost halfway across the country because of her.

I'm sorry your mom pulls this BS, no one should have a parent like that.

  • I completely understand what you are going through. Just amazing how someone who is supposed to be supportive knows exactly the time that a comment will bring you down. So often family just does not realize how insensitive they can be.

Like the others said, just remember that your FI is in love with you, chose you and cannot wait to be with you forever! Cool

That is just too funny, and my mother would fit right in there as well. She loves to find the negative in any situation and neglects to point out the positive and God forbid she give an ounce of praise.

so...Stardreamer... show us a pic of you in your new jeans and we'll all tell you how fabulous you look!
