DOC Downriver Area.......Recommendations and Prices Please

Hi Ladies. I am considering getting a DOC for my wedding.

However, I need to clarify what their "duties" are. Do they just make things run smoothly?  Or are they there to actually set up and take down things for the wedding. I am very much a DIY bride, and have purchased my own chair covers and sashes, made my own centerpieces and other decor, and my fiancee' is worried that I will have too much on my plate the day of, setting all this up, and taking it apart after the wedding. So, I have thought about hiring someone to do so, but wasn't sure if this was in the normal job description?

Also, if it is.........any recommendations and prices from "downriver" brides who have used a DOC?

TIA for your help.

  • It depends on the DOC, but that's something you can defintely request. I agree, you'll have a lot on your plate and I would avoid setting much up the day of. If you're able to get into your venue the day before, you could do it, but if not, I think it's a good idea to either ask a family friend or hire a DOC.

I don't know anyone specifically in the downriver area, but my DOC would travel. Hannah Hoskins with Upstairs Events. Best place to find them is to search on Facebook. They're relatively new to the biz, but are awesome and competitively priced. My review is in the sticky if you're interested.

  • I also did a lot of DIY, and my DOC did everything you mentioned (except we had no chair covers). I used Simplicity DOC, and I'm sure they travel downriver. For me, hiring one was a no brainer for all the reasons you mentioned. I also think if you have done a lot on your own, and involve them initially, so they can secure your date, then later when you need to tell them what to do/plan/set up & take down, you will be very happy you did.

Their contact info is here: http://www.simplicitydoc.blogspot.com/
  • I absolutely recommend a DOC, best choice I made and I didn't do any DIY really. Like Sue, I also used Simplicity DOC, Shelly was my coordinator. and I am sure they would travel. I contemplated asking a friend but thats awkward because you are either asking someone who would be your guest to work instead or asking someone you aren't close enough to invite but close enough to ask them to work it? Just seems awkward and inappropriate unless they do something like that as a career and volunteer as a wedding gift. Even if you can get in there the day before, you want someone that is there the day of to make all the finishing touches perfect while you are celebrating and getting ready with your loved ones and NOT worrying!
  • I was thinking the same thing,
    thanks for clarifying here ladies.

  • Grand Jour Events.  Contact them!  Both Tammara and Stephanie are wonderful and extremely reasonably priced.  I used them for my wedding and Tammara also did all of my flowers.  They will set up and take down everything, so you don't have to worry about it all.  (They also will make sure everything runs smoothly!)  They are not located "downriver," but will absolutely travel to your wedding venue, and meet you prior to your wedding to discuss your set-up and DIY projects.

Below is a link to their website.  They are also on facebook and have a blog that they use to recap each of their weddings.  Good luck!
