How many Hours for Photographer?

I have a one oclock wedding, approximately an hour, and six hours with the reception venue.  How long should I hire a photographer for?  I will want the "getting ready" and inbetween the wedding and reception photos as well.

I would say have him or her get there an hour before you have to be ready (around the end of hair and makeup, before you dress).  And then it depends on if you want them to stay until the very end.  Alot of girls have their photographer leave during the reception however, we wanted ours there until the end so we paid for 8 hours.

A good idea is to have them stay until after the last "tradition" (cutting the cake, bouquet toss, etc)

I've only got my photographer for 7 hours, because I figure by the end of the night they're going to have taken pictures of everything I want, and I dont' really need them there for the last hour of the reception. By that time, I'm probably going to look terrible and sweaty from dancing, and if anyone's going to be a hot drunken mess that's when it'll happen... I'm sure my friends will take plenty of pictures of that, so I don't need professional pictures of it =)

The other nice reason to have your photographer before the ceremony is because then you can take some of the pics that are often taken during the cocktail hour. My FI and I aren't going to see each other before the ceremony, but we'll take our individual pics and pictures with each side of our wedding party before the ceremony. That way during cocktail hour, we'll only have to take care of pics of the full wedding party, family and our couple pictures. =)
