Just saying "hi!" :)

Hi ladies! I hope it's appropriate to use this forum to get acquainted...

I've been engaged for 10 days and I'm already overwhelmed by planning the big day!

My boyfriend of 6 years proposed at the Ohio State Fair in a photo booth (it's our tradition to go to the fair and get pictures in the photo booth!) - we've been talking engagement FOREVER but I had no idea he had even started ring shopping! It was a perfect proposal :-D

We met at OSU but we've been long-distance most of our relationship. He's from Canton but lives in Pittsburgh currently. He's looking for jobs in cbus now (anyone know of openings for engineers!?)

We're targeting next fall for the wedding, to give us time to find him a job and get settled here. My dad not-that-jokingly said his budget is $2500... :-/ I'm sure I can nudge that number but I'm definitely not having a mega blowout, I guess. Any cost-saving tips or bang-for-your-buck venue suggestions are WELCOME!

So tell me about yourselves, your proposals, your weddings, etc. so I can get caught up!!

Re: Just saying "hi!" :)

  • hello :-)
I am Ashley, getting married to my fiance, Jason on 11/11/12 at Hilton Polaris.
We currently live in Florida and will be moving to CBus about 2 weeks before the wedding.

I am doing a lot of DIY things for the wedding... you can check out my site (listed below) as well as my blog to see all the crazy things I am doing...

    happy planning and congrats!
  • Hi! Congratulations!! My name is Sarah. My fiance, David, and I are getting married 9-15-12 at Trinity Lutheran downtown and our reception is at White Star Farm.
My dad's budget not-joking-at-all is $3000 so we are footing a lot of the bill ourselves and doing lots and lots of DIY!
My advice is take a little time to soak up being engaged, you have PLENTY of time. Welcome!!
  • Hello!! My names Alyssa and my fiance and I are getting married on 4/13/13.  DIYing is a great way to save money (if youre smart about it), and the diy board on this website is very helpful with ideas, tips/tricks, and DIY projects to avoid  (somethings are just plain easier and sometimes even cheaper to pay a professional).

Being recently engaged, I would first think through your dream day, budget, and timing, and then take a big step back and see what is feasable.  Off seasons and non Saturday weddings are a great way to save some money, as well.

What type of engineer is your husband?  I know a few people in the mechanical/electrical/structural engineering areas, I could give you some company names that are or were recently hiring, if this is his expertise.

    Congratulations and welcome!
  • Hi gals!

My wedding is 8.10.13 at the Westin in downtown C-bus.  I'm planning from California so things are a bit difficult.  I'm getting over the wedding blogs real quick..everything is starting to look the same!  DIY is def the way to go...!
  • Im Danielle, my fianc and I have been together for six years also! We will be getting married on 4/5/13 at cheers and lakeside chalet in Lancaster. My biggest tip, don't do anything until you have the budget set! Things add up fast, and you can easily blow your budget on half your wedding! And don't overwhelm your self! Take time and don't stress the little things! : also DIY is saving us a TON! Happy planning!!
  • Hi to all of you! Thanks for sharing!!

alyssa - zach is an industrial engineer, it's *kind of* in the same area as mechanical/structural but it's more manufacturing, tho he doesn't work in manufacturing now (he works alongside mechanical eng's)

danielle - i'd love to hear about cheers & lakeside! It looks gorgeous but they don't put much information on the website.

My mom has been out of state since before I got engaged and she won't be back for another week - no budget talks before then! I'd really rather put money towards buying a house and building a future but it's so hard to resist obsessing over details and wanting a big, beautiful wedding!!!

Thanks for the hello's and I look forward to getting to know you guys better and hearing all about your plans!
